“The EU could fairly ask why one of its wealthiest members, and one of its biggest per-capita polluters, should be granted exceptions, when poorer countries are making greater efforts to cut emissions?”

Ouch!! 😝

"Will the 🇮🇪Government use its financial and political capital now to secure a cleaner, cheaper, fairer future, or will it keep betting that Europe won’t enforce its own climate law?
If the latter, then we’ll not only have lost time and money, but also the opportunity to build a sustainable country."

The #ClimateCrisis doesn't wait, nor doesn’t care about accounting tricks!

Yet today, national governments took aim at the #2040Target, choosing short-term political convenience over scientific integrity, environmental safety, and societal responsibility👎

79% of homes sold in Dublin this year were bought by landlords, 75% by large landlords. About 1 in 5 TDs are landlords.

This is disgusting dog whistling. The problem has never been people seeking asylum. The problem is people seeking to endlessly profit from folks just looking for a home.
🗣️ "The one thing that there is a problem with is housing right across the state, and the more that come to seek asylum, the more pressure it puts on that system.” - Fianna Fáil Minister of State Timmy Dooley

Urban wastewater treatment is the 4th greatest pressure on Irish water quality. Some of that could be fixed by infrastructure, but almost half of the pollution is due to poor operational management.

The solution is not less environmental scrutiny.

The commission may well acquiesce. Sadly physics doesn’t do discounts or bargains and it keeps receipts. If we want a liveable future for future generations on a world that has a climate even recognisably like ours our energy should be being spent on doubling down on climate action…

Astounding that the first substantive mention of #climate in entire Presidential election campaign should occur during Catherine Connolly’s acceptance speech, which she rightly labelled an “existential crisis”.

Neither the main political parties nor our national media seem remotely interested.
