And a lot of these billionaires perceive even the slightest amount of pushback they are getting from us peasants as a totalitarian leftist threat that leaves them no choice but to go all hyper-reactionary and use their wealth to support a far-right "counter-revolution" against liberal democracy.
The billionaires who own much of the the infrastructure of our 21st century lives have progressively enshittified that infrastructure while expanding their wealth, and then they scold us for being small-souled peasants who don’t believe in progress anymore.
it is amazing how so much tech gets unremittingly worse year on year at whatever you once used it for and less pleasant to use and more bound up with creepy politics as well as personal and environmental harms and yet also still less productive of actual goods and these are somehow great visionaries

“I’ve always been convinced that [Gaza is] a universal tragedy. It’s not one more Middle Eastern conflict. It’s a laboratory of a post-UN world, of a post Geneva convention world, of a post-declaration of human rights world, and this world is very scary"
A French historian who spent more than a month in Gaza at the turn of the year says he saw “utterly convincing” evidence that Israel supported looters who attacked aid convoys during the conflict.

Holy shit, just learned about the typewriter art of Montserrat Alberich Escardívol, a Catalan typist. Using an extra wide typewriter and 180 color ribbons, she built up elaborate images from simple characters like 'm' and '.' and ';'. Here is her typewritten painting of the Cathedral of Barcelona.

Came here to say this, but Jamelle Bouie has this covered. 👇
When the Democratic tent includes candidates like Spanberger and Mamdani, there is no crisis, or fight, for the party. IT’S A COALITION, NOT A POINT ESTIMATE.
i want to repeat this: mamdani and spanberger have run similar campaigns tailored to their respective electorates and it is maddening to watch political journalists attempt to create some broad contrast where none exist
the other thing about this is that there is no reason to pit these candidates against each other? each are good fits for their respective electorates and each shows the value of vigorous campaigns focused on the stated material problems of voters.

Every member of this administration is truly evil down to their core.
The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Y'all, I'm asking for help for a member of my community to not be on the street when they've got a job in hand, and need to stay housed so they can start and keep that job.

I've seen folks help people with a last minute save, and Briggsy needs one today.
I’m begging.

I only have until today. If I don’t pay $1880, I’m on the street. I have a job, Ii start soon, and I don’t want to be homeless on my birthday. 😞

Please. I’m almost out of this; I don’t want to lose everything.

This isn’t the whole story, of course – but if it’s not at the core of your story, you’re on the wrong track.

Add “Once democracy made it possible for women to threaten patriarchal domination and for queer people to publicly affirm their identity” – and we’re already very, very close.
Once American democracy made it possible for a Black man to be elected president, American conservatives decided that it had to be destroyed
While Vought traces the “leftwing revolution” back a hundred years, to the progressive era, there is no question that the election of Barack Obama was a radicalizing moment for him and many key thinkers on the radical Right - as were the multiracial protests in the summer of 2020.

if there's an overarching theme of the last decade, (with obvious antecedents in 2009, 2000, 1994, and earlier) it's that one political faction believes governance to be a tool of warfare against their domestic enemies, and the other is surprised they keep getting attacked seemingly out of nowhere.

i really want everyone to read this because Dems are not going to win by default. new Republicans will run and they’ll say the right things to win. people will get fooled or maybe just agree.

Dems need real candidates up and down the ticket or we never escape this mess.
At a town hall in PA-10 and I’ve never heard people so angry. Our Rep is the worm Scott Perry who deserves a dump truck of shit on him. But the people here are also furious that the Dem currently running against him is Janelle Stelson — seen as a worthless pawn of the rich.
