Look out for your friends. Check on them. Remind them that they are loved. Reach out and find them, a hug from someone at this time of year may keep them from falling too far.

The Coalition Government cancels Fair Pay legislation so employers can pay as little as they can get away with, while the Remuneration Authority - not the market - determines MPs' salaries.

I suspect this is only the start of ill-informed actions against the Coalition's pushback against Maori.

The Coalition has turned their back on many important environmental practices. This puts our new free trade agreements and our food and fibre export earnings (currently 80% of all export earnings) at risk.

New Zealand’s environmental credentials on the line as coalition takes power
The National party had solid, if vague, policies to tackle pollution and fight the climate crisis, but coalition talks have seen those pledges unwound

Shocking. I can’t stress enough how unusual it is for Cabinet to leak like this, or how seriously we should take this assault on our democratic process.

Second leak.

And it reveals the government doesn’t want to have the standard checks in place on its first pieces of legislation.

Life is really difficult for the large percentage of retired people who are forced to rent. And no doubt made worse by The Coalition staking the deck again in favour of landlords.

More of a fuss needs to be made about this rampant cronyism imho. Their main strategist for this will be a company run by Bill English.

This is not going to deliver results, their measurement system is absolutely ridiculous.

The local and international track record of social investment funds and social impact bonds is far from convincing. A better-resourced public sector would be a simpler solution.

I like how efficient the national-act-nzfirst govt is! they're taking away Three Waters - the proposed centralised water authority to efficiently manage the 3 waters: drinking water, sewage & wastewater - so they can go back to 234 waters (78 councils doing all 3 waters) run by people with no idea

I'm so glad I'm not working in the Public Service right now. Those guys are being pulled from pillar to post, with no job security.

Very excited. Our rural community is getting a mobile tower soon. Until Wi-Fi mobile became available it was a 10km drive to reach coverage.

Not sure how many here remember Rev Frank Ritchie (now here as @frankritchie.bsky.social) but him and his family have been having the most horrendously difficult time of things - and need of wider help. Even just a few dollars is much appreciated & gladly welcomed:

New Zealand banks make $28 million per day. Great news for those with businesses, farms and homes struggling to pay mortgages.
Been a while since I celebrated NZ bank profitability. Here's a quick handy guide to how great they are - figures are daily.
