Today I lost an NIH grant training clinicians to do research about intimate partner violence with perinatal women.

More women are murdered in the perinatal period than die of obstetric complications.

I didn't just lose a grant. We lost an entire cohort of people building careers to prevent that.

I often wonder about the employment history of those who insist work is great for your health.
“Work is good for your mental health” have you actually had a real job? I don’t mean the Oxbridge NUS > Think Tank > SpAd > safe seat pipeline

"An NHS doctor dies by suicide every three weeks. A nurse attempts suicide almost every day. Even during the height of the pandemic, as the virus ravaged frontline healthcare workers, government data revealed that NHS staff took more sick days for mental health reasons than for Covid."
This is a fiercely sad and damning piece about the reality of one of our most admired professions. What a terrible fate for a dedicated man www.the-londoner.co.uk/nhs-doctor-s...

'Our display describes how and why Aktion T4 came about, and draws lessons on attitudes to people with learning disabilities and others today – we hope it will have a lasting impact on public perceptions.'

When "everybody got measles", infancy mortality rate was enormous. Even my grandma who was born in 1912 lost 3 out of 6 children because of preventable (nowadays) deseases.

The person on the Today programme discussing this was confidentvdaying that "many nurses" earn £38,700 or more - only nurses on the higher part of band 6 earn this much. Many nurses remain on band 5 their entire career.

Smacking an adult is assault, smacking a child is also assault, we need the law to reflect this.
Alongside @EllieChowns.bsky.social I have tabled an amendment to the Children’s Wellbeing Bill which would introduce equal protection from assault for children. As Prof Andrew Rowland says: "Now is the time for this Victorian-era punishment to go." www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Doctors back total ban on smacking children in England
Smacking is legal in some cases in England and Northern Ireland, but is banned in Scotland and Wales.

When I worked in safeguarding, older victims & survivors were some of the most difficult cases. Often, these women had lived with abuse for decades
This needs blowing wide open, @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social >

“they may be less likely to contact services or disclose their experiences because they feel like they might not be believed, might be dismissed, or they might feel that they’re taking services away from younger women who need it more.”

I remember being sat in the team office and explaining to the secretaries about viral mutations and transmission, and how difficult isolation and containment is #fiveyearson
I would really really love to hear other people's notes/strong memories about the specifics of this. I feel like we were all in such trauma that the memories have vanished fast, leaving a blanket of "oh god yuck awful" which isn't helpful for understanding how it's affected us.

#fiveyearson
I have this feeling that over the next few weeks I might like to note and mark what I was doing five years ago. Because it is big and real and still feels incredibly present in our lives.

I'll use the hashtag #fiveyearson which as far as I can tell is only used about Covid. Do mute if you need.
