Frieren S2 immediately dismantles all the noise about the new directors. Grabbing luggage off the ground reveals flattened grass under it. Walking away from her stupid magic prank still shows it shining annoyingly in the back. A series about time has to show consequence down to these details

Oshi no Ko has always been harsh on the entertainment industry, but there's a fundamental difference between its usual critique (which *can* be pointed) and allowing a brilliant woman to direct an opening that's explicitly about aspects like the commodification of young, predominantly female bodies

If you book a hotel for $200, you should pay $200.

Today, we shut down hotel junk fees and surprise credit card holds. The price you see is the price you pay.

the people who were scolded relentlessly for celebrating this moment nine years ago have been completely vindicated. punching a nazi in the face now polls higher than any member of congress.

(source: i made it up but it feels very true in my heart)
Well, it’s the 9th anniversary of this today. No special reason for mentioning it now, obviously

Mamdani: I am in support of abolishing ICE… I'm tired of waking up every day and seeing a new image of someone being dragged out of a car, dragged out of their home, dragged out of their life.

He goes on to describe one of his officers being stopped when she was off-duty solely because she's non-white, harassed by ICE goons who slapped her phone out of her hand as she tried to record, only to be let go when she finally revealed she was a cop.
Brooklyn Park police chief Mark Bruley: "We're hearing people being stopped with no cause & being demanded to show paperwork to determine if they're here legally. We started hearing from our police officers the same complaints. Every one of these individuals is a person of color... it has to stop"

Because Schumer's biggest priority needs to be taking on trump. Hope that helps.

I was correct when I said Senate Dems are going to be idiots and copy a shitty focus tested version of what they think mamdani is doing
The pivot from "Mamdani is a political genius for focusing his message almost entirely on affordability" to "Schumer is a political moron for focusing his message almost entirely on affordability" is odd.

Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

May I once again not-at-all-humbly reiterate what I said back in 2022: the centrist brain-worm that "energy security" comes from crawling from dependence on one fossil fuel supplier to another is absolute bullshit: Europe could and should have been reducing gas reliance faster for the past 3 years

What a pathetic whiner. This is not an "all Jews have dual loyalty" bias, it's a "this specific dude was so into Israel that he implied he was in the IDF when he wasn't."

Fun fact: Black Panthers doing perfectly legal (at the time) open carry in CA in the 1960s spurred then-Governor Reagan to sign the Mulford Act into law in 1965, prohibiting it.

These people have no consistent politics outside a desperate, leering need to keep hold of power and privilege.

I am going to be honest that if you aren’t sure whether or not it would be good if the fascists kill a prominent anti-fascist activist with whom you have developed an inscrutable parasocial antagonism, I really doubt the sincerity of your commitment to leftism or anti-fascism

If there's one empirical insight I'd want everyone to understand about American politics, it's this:

America's problems are solved problems. Just not here.

What would change if the US simply matched the average of 31 peer democracies? Not Denmark or Norway. Just the middle of the pack. 🧵

I don’t think enough people realize that, in the 70s, there were rivers that were so polluted that they’d regularly catch fire.

Rivers are made of water. Water is not supposed to catch fire.

And yet, 50 years on, there are still people that treat environmentalism like grievance politics.
Society parried the ozone layer, acid rain, and Y2K back to back and instead of going "wow, parrying is badass" a lot of people went "society didn't even get hit so I guess there's no need to learn how to parry" and instantly took a thousand hits
we live in a sick society that thinks preventing problems is a waste of time and effort and hey, guess why everything sucks now
