Yep. Long seasons allowed experimentation, tangents, bottle episodes, character studies. We're losing that with streaming shows which are more like a single long movie cut into segments. There is a good discipline to crafting an episode that must be exactly 42 minutes long every single time.
I've been rewatching old network shows and you know what, i'm gonna say it, i miss 23 ep seasons. I do!! Let me sit with stuff, give me some filler eps, let me have eps that are just there to build character moments, i miss it!!
The Penguin is really good, I’m glad I watched it, but my god am I fucking over the eight episode miniseries format. Leads to writing problems and pacing problems every time.
