This and the airline industry lobbyists are what did it. Not Americans starving and paying twice as much for healthcare.

More than 2,800 flights were canceled Sunday, while Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said the shutdown’s impact on airports is “only going to get worse.”

We know this was a caucus decision driven by feckless and self serving “leadership”.

Yes, *we* will keep fighting- we are just adding *you* to a long list.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

A primary for every Democratic senator who IS up for reelection soon, because this was clearly a caucus decision much as they’d like to pretend otherwise

seems to me that those democrats inclined not to fight perceive themselves as living through a somewhat ordinary cycle of presidential overreach and backlash and not something much more significant and dangerous

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

MSNBC reported Schumer's office felt that the longer that shutdown went on, the more likely it was that people would start to blame the Dems.

My kingdom for Democrats that don't govern out of fear. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The American people are far braver than their reps.

To be clear: the deal they voted on to move forward last night still needs to be formally voted on in the Senate and House. If the eight are your senators, they should be hearing from you this morning!

Dems cave. Once again. They got little for their efforts. More importantly, Americans get NO support on health care costs. Why even bother with these people? You win big last week and you capitulate the next.

Two things need to happen simultaneously:

1) A rapid mobilization and expansion of mutual aid networks to protect, feed, and care for each other

2) A tireless effort to elect progressive politicians looking to oust these fascists and their spineless enablers

Republicans were overwhelmingly getting blamed for the shutdown.
There was no reason for the Democrats to cave to Trump on healthcare, except for the fact that they are wholly owned and operated by the health insurance lobby.

If the rest don’t oust Schumer immediately, then the entire U.S. Senate sold us out. They think we’re stupid. It’s insulting.
These 8 Senators sold us out to Trump:
Hassan
King
Cortez-Masto
Shaheen
Kaine
Fetterman
Durbin
Rosen

Understand This Fact: Chuck Schumer is behind this. None of these 8 are up for reelection in 2026. Schumer asked them vote yes—they agreed. He's such a coward that he folded and won't even own it.

Under Schumer's leadership, eight Democrats (Cortez Masto, Durbin, Fetterman, Hassan, Kaine, King, Rosen, & Shaheen) joined the Republicans in moving forward a bill to reopen the government without ACA subsidies—Dems' stated key aim—or any other real concessions from the status before the shutdown.

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Folks, a pill to swallow: if current Democrats will cave to your healthcare, they will cave to your voting rights. If they will cave to you not getting paid for 40 days, they will cave to LGBTQ+ marriage. If they cave to stalling our airplanes, they will cave to destroying our National Parks.
