an ~80' tall white pine that was killed by the heat dome was felled today

no one from tree action seattle or sim groups showed up to mourn it or the thousands of other trees killed by excessive heat due to climate change, exacerbated by single family zoning and cars

Saka: People Who Support Keeping "Curby" Are Anti-Immigrant, Radical "Defund the Police" Carpetbaggers

Announcing a new plan that allows cars to park in a bus lane, Saka accuses those who support the existing traffic safety barrier of hypocrisy, "White Saviorism," and anti-cop sentiment.

Unrelated/related: As someone who grew up in a rural/small town and now lives in a large city, why is it offensive for people in cities to disdain small towns but not offensive for people in small towns to disdain cities? That double standard itself feels patronizing!
We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

Streetcar ridership did not merely decline. It was deterred.

Streetcar passengers did not endanger motorists, but motorists endangered them.

In every city, people boarding, alighting from, or waiting for streetcars accounted for a large fraction of pedestrian traffic casualties. ...

A King County Superior Court judge just ruled that the challenge to Seattle's Comp Plan can't move forward.

There could still be an appeal after the city council enacts the plan and related zoning legislation, under the normal GMA process.
I'm at the King County Courthouse right now for a hearing on a writ of review that will determine whether a challenge to the validity of Seattle's Comp Plan FEIS can move forward.

I have no idea how this is going to go.
The "Friends of Ravenna-Cowen" have filed a petition in County Superior Court, alleging that Seattle's Hearing Examiner shouldn't have dismissed their appeal against the Comprehensive Plan.

It once again repeats the myth that the city dramatically increased zoning changes at the last minute.

On May 18, 1980, crowds of scientists gathered to study Mount St. Helens, an awakening volcano in Washington State.

While geologists prepared for an eruption at the summit, the North face of the volcano simply blew out without warning, transforming into a churning liquid.

Called my congressman who voted for the SAVE act.

Me: What documents will I need to vote if this passes?
Staffer: a DL and birth certificate.
Me: The documents don’t match
Staffer: Then a marriage certificate.
Me: Will my husband need the marriage certificate too?
Staffer: No
Me: See the problem?

It’s still hard to believe the simple fact that this is all self-imposed. Everything that’s happening right now wasn’t the result of some foreign adversary destroying the country. We did this all to ourselves by electing the dumbest motherfucker to ever rule a nation.

This is what many people are looking for from the Dems—humility and acknowledging mistakes. I.e., being adult human beings
Booker: "I confess that I have been imperfect. I confess that I've been inadequate to the moment. I've confess that the Democratic Party has made terrible mistakes that gave a lane to this demagogue. I confess we all must look in the mirror and say 'we will do better.'"
