The Black church was the biggest subsidy of 20th century music bar none. Almost every Black musician learned in church. You know why Motown was a thing? Because Black kids who learned to sing and play by ear in church also got formal music education in Detroit public schools.
Music started sucking when kids stopped getting exposed to Sunday choirs and schools started cutting music programs.

The world isn't silent on Gaza - this is by far the most vocal I have seen the general public on a political issue in my lifetime. I have also never seen a bigger difference between the anger of the public and the inaction of specific institutions and governments. That's the crucial disconnect.

I think a lot of this comes from the merger of MAGA and Silicon Valley. The tech industry believes it’s the only place capable of innovation and all the other intellectual centers of America - academia, industry, media, journalism, government - should be abolished and simply bend the knee to tech
Trump and Musk are basically trying to deskill America:
1) kill all white-collar jobs and replace them with AI
2) kill universities
3) use tariffs to turn the U.S. into an economic island manufacturing, oil and ag hub
4) empty the cities
5) push men into manual labor & women back into the kitchen
