The adamant elite refusal to call bullshit is a big part of How We Got Here.

The prevailing cultural attitude for years is you must not, under any circumstances, treat anything as bad faith. You are obligated to find some reasonable idea and engage with that, even if you distort to get there.

Hegseth is now threatening to send the Marines to LA to suppress protesters against ICE’s brutal assault on immigrant garment workers.

Just process that: Sending in the *military* to crack down on protesters.

We’re now at severe risk of martial law. That’s what they’ve wanted all along.

According to the official White House account, the US is in the midst of an "insurrection" that warrants federalization of the National Guard, which is why the President is attending a UFC fight and hanging out with Dana White.

Misinformation spreads fast online when impulsive sharers (like bots or reactive users) sit in central positions in a network. But if more cautious, discerning users are in those spots, they can slow or even stop the spread—acting like social firewalls.

Yes it is all related. It is why my book has chapters on machismo corruption violence and propaganda
It's almost as if they're asking the entire country to have the same sort of relationship to the less positive parts of US History as Donald Trump's supporters have to the parts of his history that involve things like sexual abuse, bankruptcy, felony convictions, insurrections, etc.

They have never been interested in a ceasefire. They are interested in destroying Ukraine
On Kremlin TV, Putin intimate Solov'yov says Russia so encouraged by Trump taking their side no longer see need for ceasefire.

"No, there won’t be any ceasefire. Our idea of peace is everything happening as we see fit”

Then plays a clip of Vance slamming Ukraine.

Vance is "our man" he says.

The symmetry between Germany-Czechoslovakia in 1938 and Russia-Ukraine in 2022 is uncanny, and pausing for a moment on the resemblances might help us to take a broader view of today.

ominous assault on the Federal Election Commission
Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

Ecological panic, real and imagined, has been foundational to many horrors. Anthropogenic climate change has dire sociopolitical implications. Our inability to respond to the polycrisis of climate change is both an indictment of and threat to our world order.
I am worried about food shortages, in particular. How do you think we’ll handle domestic crop failures with an organized crime syndicate in charge of government, putting tariffs on any imports?
