@billsimmons.bsky.social Kids on the beach in the ‘70s = Rush’s “Lakeside Park”. A better time.

“Everyone would gather on the 24th of May
Sitting in the sand to watch the fireworks display
Dancing fires on the beach, singing songs together
Though it's just a memory, some memories last forever”

Next they will take down the pages entirely, and the memorial. They are already scrubbing content from course curricula. They are erasing references to the people so nobody will notice when they erase the people. A familiar fascist playbook.
Oh my god.

They removed "transgender" from the page about Trans woman Sylvia Rivera's page at the National Park service.

"Sylvia Rivera began fighting for gay and _____ rights"

WOW.

Not sure how I missed it, but Joe Bennett (Scavengers Reign) and Steve Hely (VEEP) have a fascinating new animated series, #CommonSideEffects. Incredibly thoughtful concept and story. The hand-drawn animation style (like Scavengers Reign) is perhaps an acquired taste, but it’s used to full effect.

Classic blitz tactics: attack points of weakness, inflict maximum damage and move on before the “enemy” (the American people and their elected representatives) have a chance to react.

And for anyone who’s thinking “unintended consequences”, nope: this is working *exactly as designed*. Social policy changes like this are targeted attacks.

Given developments at the Kennedy Center, effective today I am resigning as artistic advisor to the NSO.
Not for me.
It’s been a wonderful 8 years working with Kennedy Center President Deb Rutter, fellow artistic advisor Renee Fleming, NSO artistic administrator Justin Ellis, and the entire NSO

The big takeaway here is that Reuters won this case against the AI company on grounds they violated fair use—the judge found the AI company was guilty because, in using copyrighted works to generate its output, it “meant to compete... by developing a market substitute.”

Huge.

Thomson Reuters has won the first major AI copyright case in the US. The decision has big implications for the battle between generative AI companies and rightsholders.

The best part is that he *thinks* he has, but he’s actually changed it to “Hairy Bowls” (ō is a long o sound, as in “no” or “go”).

I don’t particularly want to picture a hairy bowl, myself, but I do know it’s only something an idiot would choose as a handle.

With all due respect to MLB and other sports social media managers (and importantly, to those providing direction to them):

You have to let go of X. The inflated social media impressions you get are not worth you being surrounded by racist flaming garbage.
