This article starts out well but I disagree with the conclusion, pointing at better *leadership* as the solution.

The real solution is stronger unions & more worker ownership. Which tools to use & how to use them should be decided by the workers.

The broader perspective:

Check out our new bundle together with Raw Fury! There are some interesting overlaps between Mind Diver and The Signifier, both in style and substance.

If investigation and near-scifi is your vibe, this is probably one of the best deals you can get your hands on right now.
A first-person tech-noir mystery adventure that blends investigation, experimental psychology, & artificial intelligence meets investigating a broken mind to unravel a twisted case. Give your brain a workout with The Signifier and Mind Diver: store.steampowered.com/bundle/64458...

Almost didn't make it through security because of a very special piece of luggage 😄 I'm on my way home from Bilbao with the "Most Innovative Game" award from BIG Conference. It's so heavy that the security guards had a longer discussion about it, but eventually decided to wave me through!

Depresso headline, but the interview with Keita is still delightful. Especially make note of his comments on the throughline of his games, and his excellent music recommendations 😄
Keita Takahashi said 'To a T' didn't sell well enough. He moved back to Japan with his family, unsure if he will stay in the industry.

THEY'VE PUT ME ON THE POCKETSTATION COOP. I'M BEING RENDERED IN A 32 BY 32 GRID OF MONOCHROME PIXELS. THE BOYS BACK AT QUANTICO SAID THEY'RE GOING TO RELOCATE ME TO A "DOKO DEMO ISSYO" UNTIL THEY CAN GET THIS STRAIGHTENED OUT.

I intend to use my profits from the game to fund and uplift creators less privileged than he is. I’ve already begun that effort with the Draknek New Voices Puzzle Grant: grants.draknek.org

Annoying vagueposting, but I MUST share my excitement: we're starting up an extremely cool project, but more importantly, we are doing it in a way that feels inordinately meaningful.
we'll be more democratic & cooperative this time around.
so many fresh, inspiring ideas in our conversations.

In this hypothetical (full auto science) what's lost is the direct participation of human beings in the growth and direction of knowledge that would affect our own futures. So a loss of autonomy and agency -- which might make someone sad, of course. But also... losing autonomy and agency is huge!

Big ups to Julian, our next-door neighbor at NYU's Game Innovation Lab, a long-time AI researcher protesting full-human-replacement as evil?!

I recommend the accompanying blog-post; really articulates some high stakes at play in this discourse, and gives me many thoughts.
was at an event on AI for science yesterday, a panel discussion here at NeurIPS. The panelists discussed how they plan to replace humans at all levels in the scientific process. So I stood up and protested that what they are doing is evil.

cheat-code for academic/journalistic 2010's twitter discourse that apparently still works: locate the Naomi Clark reply to get the sophisticated, succinct conclusion to most of the discussion.

Then go back to posting about Desert Golfing.
Ian I’m kind of annoyed that this didn’t just wrap up 10 years ago at the fairly obvious synthesis that games can and do achieve a variety of things distinctly from other forms of culture (distinctive subject-position form of storytelling, distinctive aesthetic of systems and contingency and agency)

Loving stuff is smart as heck
I’ve forgotten this sometimes but being able to discover something you like, curate it, and make time to enjoy it *is* intelligence, connecting with art is intelligence, empathy is intelligence, the way of the dullard is to find nothing meaningful in art except for a way to seem snidely clever

Stayed up way too late to finish Mind Diver, clocking in at 4.6 hrs -fantastic game. All the clues are there if you take the time to really look around, listen/read closely, and pay attention.

Reminded me a lot of The Roottrees Are Dead, just being curious about things helps
Ok "Metroidbrania" folks, apparently I'm hearing that Mind Diver is a good 'un if you like stuff like Obra Dinn, Golden Idol, and so on.
OVERWHELMINGLY POSITIVE*
WHAT 😱

Mind Diver is our first game. We're a tiny team. I'm crazy proud of our work: an intimate game we dearly wanted to exist.

But we've had almost no press and few streams, so THANK YOU for the words-of-mouth 😭

Just finished this game last night (got it at launch but I've had a busy few weeks since then) and I really enjoyed it!

Near-future science fiction story set in Copenhagen, deductive investigation gameplay in first person. I want to write a bit more about it later - it's really cool.

Did you know you can actually just buy games from itch.io? It's really cool, most often DRM-free, and they take a smaller cut than Steam!

Support Santa Ragione next week, and throw some dollars after someone else than Valve for a change!
Our upcoming game HORSES was preemptively banned from Steam, with no path to appeal. The game will still launch next week on December 2nd and will be available on EGS, GOG, Humble, and Itch for $4.99. Here is a detailed FAQ covering what happened: horses.wtf/BannedFromSt...
