Wholly agree with this. LLMs are an extraordinary technical achievement, but they're like dynamite: You can use them for a bunch of different things, but you might not like the collateral damage when you use them for tasks they're not suited to.
LLMs are basically massive high-dimension word association lookup tables (over simplifying a bit). They’re most interesting, to me, as an analytical tool for how natural languages work, but obviously that’s not how they’re marketed or used at all

I have just finished The Dawn Of Everything and I highly recommend it if you're interested in the structure of society or how we look at history. It's a commitment (525 pages and reasonably dense) but it's eye-opening. And gives you hope for the future - there are *other* ways of doing things.
