Respiratory protection requirements for firefighters is great, but why stop there? The medical community is in desperate need of an update to respiratory protection guidelines & requirements. Too many people get sick at their doctor’s office or hospital.
Until this year, wildland firefighters were prohibited from protecting themselves against hazardous smoke while battling a blaze.

My new bipartisan bill with Sen. John Curtis will create the first-ever respiratory protection requirements for firefighters.

I’ve been on the watch for our neighborhood red tailed hawk to see if he would return to his old favorite perch this fall. Such a treat to see him there this morning for the first time in months! Welcome back, Guillaume! (*I don’t remember why we started calling him that, but that’s his name now. 🤷‍♂️)

I've never really understood the logic of "targeted vaccination".

Of course, money is a huge issue and we seek to get the most out of every £ spent.

Of course COVID and flu waves would be far worse without it.

But, what doesn't sit well for me is the following...

I am constantly surprised that so many people want to live in a society that refuses to help those in need because in doing so they may occasionally help someone that doesn’t need it.

I’d much prefer to live in a society that happily accepts helping “too many” rather than too few.

Tom Hanks explains to Stephen Colbert why he masks on the subway:

"I'm doing a play right now so I cannot get sick... I've had COVID enough in my life, I don't need to do that again. So I'm wearing this for health reasons."

Thank you Tom! Masks are still a key part of public health.

I love how Rep. Joe Neguse reframed this question.

The situation at Kennedy Center is an extreme version, but this way of thinking has been killing the performing arts for decades. Generating revenue is not the only definition of having value. Running arts orgs like for profit businesses will be the end of the performing arts.
The arts have a liberal bias, apparently. “We had spent way too much on programming that doesn’t bring in any revenue,” Richard Grenell, a Trump ally ...told the Washington Reporter...in late March. ... It was too woke and niche. The new team was, in Trump’s words, going to make it “hot” again."
Kennedy Center ticket sales have plummeted since Trump takeover
Nearly nine months into Trump’s oversight, sales for the three largest performance venues are the worst they’ve been since the pandemic, according to a Washington Post analysis.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

Dear @nytimes.com , There is 0% chance that this is a change of course. You don’t demolish a building on a whim. This was obviously the plan all along. They lied to you, you lapped it up, repeated it, & now are covering it up for them.

A new reason to hate Spotify. I’m considering signing up just so I can immediately cancel.
Spotify is running ICE ads. I went to cancel on mobile and saw that this isn’t allowed on mobile. They make you cancel on desktop. You think that’s gonna stop me, Spotify? I will erase you and forget you ever existed.

THOU SHALT CANCEL SPOTIFY!!!

No Kings Harlem, NYC. @bobbielynn.bsky.social & I were bummed that we couldn’t make it to the big event downtown, but the vibe in Harlem was great. Great community. Great energy. No Kings.
