It is deeply concerning that America is having a literal kristallnacht in Chicago and it is not the only story in National news.

Arresting entire buildings, vanishing journalist, shooting priests in the head and zip tying children aren't enough to lead?

My fellow Jews: protect your heart and don’t read the replies to this post.

My fellow allies: read all of these replies, internalize the antisemitism problem on the left, and start gathering your thoughts about how you will fight this vile rhetoric.
I am sickened by today’s attack in Manchester. Antisemitism is on the rise around the world, and we must do all we can to stomp it out. I am grateful to first responders and congregants who showed incredible bravery, and I am praying for those who were killed.

My heart goes out today to my own extended family, to the Jewish communities of Manchester, the UK, and the world at large. Antisemitism is wrong. That is a complete sentence.

"The stories that get lifted out of fandom—where a bad (white) man is redeemed by the love of a good (ambiguously brown) woman he’s busily oppressing—are being chosen because those are the stories capitalism always wanted to tell."

100000000% yes. Wish I had written it. So glad Jenny did.
deepest of deep breaths

feeling nervous about this one, friends! I've written about the mainstreaming of pull-to-publish, its impact on fandom, and what it means for an increasingly corporate and IP-driven creative landscape.

@readingtheend.bsky.social dissects the trend pulling fanfiction through the traditional publishing pipeline (and what it means for fandom):

additionally: I am uncomfortable with monetised fanfic from a copyright point of view, but can accept that an idea can change and mutate sufficiently to have become a new story with new characters. However that stops being an excuse when you market it based on the original IP.

You also need to say this shit when people get fired for mentioning their personal gender or get roughed up for looking at ICE the wrong way.

Come the fuck on. If you believe this, believe it for everyone.

No people on the planet will ever be AI. This is Orwellian bullshit. Zero people will ever be AI. This is no different from saying half the people in the country are television characters. Do not let anybody convince you that you don’t know the difference between a human being and a machine.

basic human rights are not something u put up to debate like some influencer game show shit
The Pod Save America bros are setting up a "debate" about trans rights featuring anti-trans ghoul Matt Yglesias, apparently! No clue who the "pro-trans" side will be repped by, but I'm really worried that they're going to just find someone to get steamrolled.
so there’s gonna potentially be a pod save america “debate” on democrats future support for trans rights in the near future

i had to back out because of scheduling conflicts, and for some reason they didn’t want my help finding a replacement

on the other side of the “debate” is…

The ICE camps are concentration camps. They should be called concentration camps.

It is, of course, important to distinguish between concentration camps and death camps, but also, I am not sure we will know when or if we undergo the transition from concentration camps into death camps.

This article is behind a paywall. You can use archive.ph to bypass it.

Being born abroad, even when one of your parents is an American citizen requires paperwork and used to involve the state department (I think homeland security deals with it now).

They don’t tell people on purpose.

They’re absolutely using loopholes, but also a lot of Americans do not understand how citizenship even for their own children isn’t a given if the other parent isn’t a citizen and/or their child isn’t born in the US.

If any of this applies to you or someone you love please get informed ASAP.

Agree with this — and it’s going to get messssy.
Listen, I love fanfic. Love it! And I love authors getting paid! But I feel some way about not even *attempting* to distance the paid book from the source material.

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:

1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long

All lies.
