"Friendship books" were the #Facebook of the 17th and 18th centuries (without the ads and data mining). Here's a fine example of one begun in 1795 by the aunt of the poet Felicia Dorothea Browne: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/the-friendship-book-of-anne-wagner-1795-1834 #FriendshipDay

#Adolescence is extraordinary, in every way you can imagine. A tough, realistic, urgent masterclass of writing, acting, directing and social observation. And the kids ... I swear there are 4 future Oscar winners in this show. Brilliant.

“The coroner also criticised NHS 111 for “misleading” the public by calling its call handlers “health advisers”. This title, she said, “implies professionalism which is untrue given their underlying skills and unsubstantiated given it is their role to complete an algorithm”.”
My brother, the NHS and the inquest into a needless death

I never understood the practice, it's literally giving up your identity to indicate your new owner.

Recently heard a historian describe marriage (in the ancient world) as "marriage is a contract between a husband and a father." About sums it up.
It's not complicated. They're just trying to stop women from being able to vote.

Just reminding people about this as she came up on Great British Menu
Drummond sat the Chief Engineer's exam SIX YEARS in a row. Was marked as failed every time.

In 1936, the Board of Trade were forced to admit they were deliberately failing her because she was a woman. Which meant failing EVERYONE who sat the exam with her to cover it up, as her scores were too high
I'm assuming people have you covered by now BUT a noteworthy example of getting an absurd level of performance out of a ship would be Victoria Drummond getting 12.5 knots out of a dog of a ship whose previous best was just 9.
