This piece on AI by Cory Doctorow is spectactular.

When we had society wide covid mitigations, we eliminated an entire strain of flu.

Now we’re in the “you do you” era and seeing an aggressive and early start to flu season.

Three children in Ottawa have died.

Wear a mask, ideally an N95. Get your vaccines. Clean the air. Stay home when sick:

Reading the bewilderment in this story is wild.

Of course Georgia Meloni is ineffective at curbing gender inequality and femicide. Antipathy toward egalitarianism isn't a bug of the far right. It's one of its consistent features, because fascists are consumed with hierarchy and social control!

Italy has a femicide problem. Critics say Prime Minister Georgia Meloni should do more to fix it | CNN
Italian model and entrepreneur Pamela Genini had what many might consider an enviable life. Then, last month, she was fatally stabbed at her home, police say.

I had a sad week last week (nothing dire or cat-related, just stupid bs that wears you down), but then today my friend Adelle was casually like “oh, I have something for you” and pulls out AN ENVELOPE OF VINTAGE CAT PHOTOS. It was the right thing at the right time to make everything better. 💕

Every activism movement in history has made space for humor, music, art, gratitude, and beauty. It centers you and reminds you what you’re fighting for. Being relentlessly miserable is just a recipe for burnout and giving up.
I know our country is on fire. I know Trump is bad and is doing very bad things, and I often address those things with posts and reposts. But if I post a joke about my kid or my dog or a pleasant experience at a diner, don’t scold me for not exclusively talking politics 24/7. Please just ignore me.
