Frankly, if you frame life as men bad and women good, you’re basically begging to get hurt by other women as they perpetuate the structures of misogyny against you, while also preventing yourself from finding love with men, who can actually be really lovely (including cis men).
I’ll die on the hill that “all men suck” is, in general, baby’s first feminist thought, which is distressing considering that’s where most people’s feminist awakening seems to end.

Some Grok users, mostly men, began to demand to see bruising on the bodies of the women, and for blood to be added to the images. Requests to show women tied up and gagged were instantly granted.

It will only embolden them to commit even more blatant murder and crimes if local and state officials are blocked from accessing any of the evidence as what happened in the Minneapolis.

If you deny accountability via legal systems, the federal government begins to lose its legitimacy to govern.

Pastor: I saw ICE agents circling a young woman who appeared to be Hispanic. I said, 'Take me, stop harassing her.' The next thing I knew, they put handcuffs on me and put me in the back of an SUV. I asked if I was under arrest. They said to me, 'Well, you're white, you won't be any fun anyway.'

It's Tolkien's birthday. Two years ago, I wrote a piece on each of Jackson's films. I'm still proud of them.

my childhood friend died at 31. my grandmother died. my city's hospital was overflowing and its staff so badly traumatized they started quitting en masse.
there’s a thread on reddit right now called “was COVID really that bad?” and it is interesting to read people’s accounts five years out

there seems to be a collective trauma response where people (outside of healthcare workers) don’t remember how many people died

someone called it anticlimactic

so brilliant in this documentary: the point that education is supposed to create a level playing field which selects for the brightest minds & hardest workers.

many of those minds are, by this evidence, in Kenya. but their work bolstering false self-images of North American and European people.
this documentary about people in Kenya who write essays for UK and US students is jaw-dropping

there’s a part where someone in the US needs an essay for her course. she goes online to sell nudes to get the money to pay the essay-writer in Kenya to write it for her

Fonts are in the news, so I'm going to take the opportunity to port over an old thread: what was typography like in the Soviet Union?

Spoiler: they did not just have 1 font everyone had to use. As a matter of fact, there were 39.

One of them, you can see here, used to great effect for "Chernobyl."

In the last few weeks, I’ve become increasingly convinced that Trump and his regime are totally cooked.

They can only stay in power by stealing elections—but they can only do that if enough people are willing to help them.

They’re in a downward spiral and can’t pull themselves out of it.
