Hey for real, South Park contributed more to transphobia being normalized in the pre-Rowling era more than any other media I can think. Garrison alone.

Them doing a Trump video where he has a tiny dick and is sleeping with Satan is not something you gotta applaud them over. They're assholes.

there's also people claiming we trans people are "holding allies to a purity test" here and to be clear:

"Don't participate in stuff that actively funds the campaign to exterminate us" is a pretty fucking low bar. One might say it's not even "allyship," it's just decency.
Also, Lithgow is trying to muddy the waters by giving interviews where he pretends that the controversy here is that he's American, not that he's signing off on transphobia.

This is very different from "oh, this person may have troubling views", she almost singlehandedly funded the anti-trans movement in the UK, with significant spillover to everywhere else.
To me Rowling exists entirely outside of the “should we support/work with artists with troubling views?” debate. She doesn’t just *think* her opinions, she doesn’t just *say* them, she’s a relentless 24-7 activist whose whole mission in life is terrorizing trans people.

#altTextTips

Veronica offers up tips and resources around alt text here.

I’m glad so many people have found my “capybara method” for how to write alt text and image descriptions helpful! However, I know conflicting access needs exist and not everyone can write their own #AltText, so here’s an ongoing thread of tools that can help. Inclusion in thread ≠ endorsement

Evergreen reminder: Executive orders are not laws. Do not act like or presume what's in them can automatically be done, or can be legally done. And always fight Trumpist/Muskist efforts to carry them out, politically and in the courts. And probably without the help of the Senate Dems, bc they suck

Ok, I'm doing a version of this thread for 🧪 who are new to political conditions where info security is a safety issue:

1. Don't make public lists of people who are engaging in acts of resistance
2. Be weary of calls to advertise acts of subversion
3. Don't live post resistance meetings
This is my “daughter of a Black Panther breakfast program volunteer” coming out but anyone who tells you that you have to be public about all your resistance activity should immediately be under suspicion for being an op, or being under the influence of an op

The ops are also following any public information about who you don’t like and who doesn’t like you and that’s one reason to be *thoughtful* about what fights you’re having in public and whether they have to be public

Some of you may be thinking of going and protesting for the first time. It's more important now than ever to stay safe, so here's some practical protest advice:
- cover your face
- don't take your phone
- take water
- wear nondescript clothing
- set a meeting point for if you get separated

Just gonna say it. "Able-bodied" is a pretty outdated way to refer to non-Disabled people as a whole.

Yes, your brain is part of your body but that is not the assumption evoked by the term "able-bodied".

"Non-Disabled" is fine. "Abled" is fine, too.

"Able-bodied" raises hackles.

The only time you should ever open your mouth around a cop:

- Am I being detained or am I free to go?

- I do not consent to any search.

- I invoke the fifth. I want to speak to a lawyer.

That's it.

Don't announce your intent to disobey to them, AND ALSO DO NOT ANNOUNCE IT ON YOUR SOCIALS OR GROUP CHATS.

Edgelords, I'm looking at you
Your right to remain silent is absolute. That includes when police are at your door.

Also; if you're planning to refuse to obey the police's commands? Don't announce your intent to disobey.

It's MUCH easier for your lawyers if the cops don't have you on bodycam admitting you heard & understood.

Gonna be pedantic for a second on this (for a reason, I promise): civil disobedience has a very specific definition.

Civil disobedience is INTENTIONALLY breaking a law because you believe that *the law you are breaking* is unjust.

This distinction matters because in true cases of civil disobedience, you are breaking the law to publicly call attention to that law's injustice.

That's the one time it's probably actually strategic to say explicitly that your intention is to break the law.

Multiple UFW union offices received this in the mail this week. Thanks for reaching out!

Pretty horrific that not only has TikTok explicitly endorsed Trump - yes, in no small part due to Democrats' feckless dithering - but also that millions of young people will no doubt begin the Trump Regime with ebullient goodwill toward him.

The thing you have to understand about the banality of evil is that it was mundane.

It was people just doing their job. A journalist just publishing an uncritical article about a collaborator. A scientist just doing a calculation without thinking through the implications for weapons.

It is a slap in the face to every poor kid, every kid of color, every queer kid, and every kid who doesn't fit any of those definitions but shows up every single day to support those who do.

It is a slap in the face to librarians and educators whose careers and lives have been shattered over this.
