#altTextTips

Veronica offers up tips and resources around alt text here.

I’m glad so many people have found my “capybara method” for how to write alt text and image descriptions helpful! However, I know conflicting access needs exist and not everyone can write their own #AltText, so here’s an ongoing thread of tools that can help. Inclusion in thread ≠ endorsement

The ops are also following any public information about who you don’t like and who doesn’t like you and that’s one reason to be *thoughtful* about what fights you’re having in public and whether they have to be public

The only time you should ever open your mouth around a cop:

- Am I being detained or am I free to go?

- I do not consent to any search.

- I invoke the fifth. I want to speak to a lawyer.

That's it.

Gonna be pedantic for a second on this (for a reason, I promise): civil disobedience has a very specific definition.

Civil disobedience is INTENTIONALLY breaking a law because you believe that *the law you are breaking* is unjust.

This distinction matters because in true cases of civil disobedience, you are breaking the law to publicly call attention to that law's injustice.

That's the one time it's probably actually strategic to say explicitly that your intention is to break the law.

It is a slap in the face to every poor kid, every kid of color, every queer kid, and every kid who doesn't fit any of those definitions but shows up every single day to support those who do.

It is a slap in the face to librarians and educators whose careers and lives have been shattered over this.
