I could tell you but I’d have to bore you. Fan of tuna noodle casserole and ugly music. Alabamian lucky enough to live on Vancouver Island. I talk too much about tabletop role-playing games.

I no longer trust my ability to distinguish real people from bots so going forward I’m not following anyone back.

Were it not for the friendships made and grown across multiple platforms over decades I’d close this account too.

The well is poisoned, at least for me it seems to be.

i used to think the lyric was ‘i wanna rock and roll all night / and part of every day’ and i remember thinking, honestly that sounds reasonable

Turns out that when you just laze about eating delicious foods, you put on weight

why did no one inform me of this

now I have to do stuff and y’all know how I hate doing stuff

Sigh. Ok. I’ll go for a walk. That’s almost like doing stuff. And if I walk in the right direction, there’s a donut place

If I were to Frankenstein together my dream TTRPG, it would have Traveller’s chargen, Dragonbane’s combat and skill advancement, and Blades in the Dark’s clocks, crews, and factions. With the main resolution mechanic being CoC/BRP percentile roll-under.

Tell me why this is a terrible idea.

Ok, so I can’t shoot a man on Bluesky, just to watch him die

Fine

Then I’ll just sit here and WISH people were dead

I have stronger opinions about mustard than I do about ketchup

I have thoughts on mayo, too, but they are trivial and not worth repeating

The lesson here is to not think about stuff

“news influencers”

Hey Siri, show me a phrase that will come out of nowhere and crush my spirit entirely
Younger adults are more likely to get news from news influencers, but they aren’t more likely to actively seek it out.

Among those who get news from influencers, 72% under age 50 say they happen to come across it, compared with 60% of Americans ages 50+. www.pewresearch.org/...

I’m running a Call of Cthulhu one-shot featuring snake-handling preachers, murderous mule-traders, Appalachian desperation, and car trunks full of explosives. But the best bit:

every fact is historical truth. It all really happened. No Cthulhu required.

I’m going to fucking TERRIFY that table.

it’s true
coffee at 2pm won't affect your sleep adversely if you are pure of heart and spirit

all these fit elderly people

with their healthy activities

surely the chipper sprightliness is a facade

but no, there they go, hiking up a mountain in their handknits and sensible shoes to watch birds

reasonably attainable happiness in one’s twilight years looks a lot like exercise, dammit

We are meeting a friend for coffee in Victoria like normal people who have friends are wont to do

I am unreasonably excited by the prospect of casual social interaction

Polishing my new essay for publication in The Atlantic.

Expect “Accommodating Fascists: The Only Way Forward (Boogity Boogity Boo)” any day now

Then I realize that that worry is time better spent on breakfast

Longing for those radioactive orange crinkle-cut fries at Milo’s Hamburgers back in Bham. And the sauce. And the sweet tea. So bad. So good.

If you like a little Kafka with your LeCarré and a pinch of Philip K. Dick in your Agatha Christie, you should read the Fractured Europe books
So it’s the tenth birthday of Midnight, a book that was nearly but not quite a lot of things. Happy birthday, little book. Still looking good.

The full weight of western capitalism is about to laser focus on NYC. The robber barons failed to win and will panic. They will sabotage NYC because the system cannot allow Mamdani's term to be successful. They cannot allow people to believe things can be better. Your job now is to hold the line.
