couldn’t have put it better myself. palestine is the sole issue i’ve ever found where every person in my life, of all political persuasions, agrees on
The world isn't silent on Gaza - this is by far the most vocal I have seen the general public on a political issue in my lifetime. I have also never seen a bigger difference between the anger of the public and the inaction of specific institutions and governments. That's the crucial disconnect.

For young people it's instructive to go see how old folks complain of high power bills (~$100s) and the government takes aggressive action, whereas on housing (~$1000s) It's an endless parade of rarely meaningful policy.

It is utterly fucking terrifying how quickly your life can go to hell. How you can go from comfortably affording your children to having nothing in the blink of an eye. Injury. Sickness. Redundancy. Eviction. Dismissing those who are struggling with "you shouldn't have had children" is monstrous

maybe a weird analogy but the whole ‘art vs the artist’ thing for me feels like enjoying a delicious meal but then you find a hair or something wrong in it and your disgust quickly becomes the main feeling

the subset of STEM people who denigrate the arts/humanities/social sciences are so annoying. how on earth do you have a superiority complex from e.g. doing calculus or writing code? big whoop, so can I, so can other STEM people… *whilst* simultaneously managing to not be totally insufferable!

I wholeheartedly agree that there is so much more that encompasses freedom and liberty - political rights are one part of a wider picture. I would also add that imo there can be a bit of an “I’m alright Jack” mentality amongst liberals too?
