do not install any app from Facebook or Meta on any device. Ideally avoid installing ANY social media app. Login through a browser.

I highly doubt Facebook is the only company pulling this shit

“Localhost tracking” explained. It could cost Meta 32 billion.
You just can't finish off Zuckerberg.

They detained him because he was brown. Full stop. It wasn't an accident they detained a US citizen.
A US-born citizen was walking near Chicago in January. ICE snatched him off the street, handcuffed him, threw into a van. His wallet, which contained his ID, was confiscated. He was detained for 10 hours before being released without a record of what occurred.

One of the biggest & most persistent myths of the neoliberal age has been that decision-making will be "evidence-based" when in fact right-wing ideology trumps is every. single. time.
University admins claim to be "data-driven" and "run universities like a business," but when study after study finds liberal arts majors get good outcomes, are cheap to run, and are in fact profit centers, admins cut them anyway for ideological reasons.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if your business model can't exist without exploiting or stealing from workers, then you shouldn't be in business. End of story.

I gotta love watching artists tell their audiences they're only allowed to enjoy art in hyper specific ways or it's bad/doesn't count/how dare you even look upon our face.

I do wonder if they get the connection between their own gatekeeping and when they complain their field of art is "dying." 🙃

My partner and his family are from Maine, he works closely w/ organizations based in Portland. Last night we both got on X for the first time in months hoping that there might be some chance it could still work as a realtime news source when we didn’t see much here. The answer, absolutely not.

Have elements of these things always been there, yes. Have I, as a scholar who wrote a book about Twitter and studies the public sphere, ever seen such terrible search results on a breaking news item on social? No, except maybe in FB groups that specifically focus on spreading conspiracy and hate.
