Ok, I’m in. Will do answers as a thread, so please do mute it or the tag #gtkmb if you’re not interested. 😊
Happy to play too!
I’m a little worried about jinxing the whole thing by saying this, but ...

… someone close to me might be about to get the social care they need. Please keep your fingers crossed!

The apostrophe 's as an allowed personal genitive for shop names and other businesses caused controversy as an English encroachment, but actually has been attested in signage and naming in German-speaking countries for hundreds of years. Duden started saying "nein" in 1901 as an anti-British thing.

The answer to this question is that British people could discuss this question till the end of time and not be done.
Could someone explain to me what is meant when a British person refers to "the middle class" ? Like, in the US, as I hear it, it basically just means a person who makes a certain amount of money, not too far below and not wildly above the median. Seems like a complex concept when UK writers use it?

Facial prosthesis, c.1917. THREAD for #RemembranceSunday🧵

From the moment the first machine gun rang out over the Western Front, one thing was clear: mankind’s military technology had wildly surpassed its medical capabilities. Bodies were battered, gouged, hacked, and gassed. /1

BBC has even managed to bring an unfortunately ambiguous English-language headline into this affair. There was a moment where I was thinking young Ryan had wrong-numbered his local escort agency... www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Today has been a bit of a shit sandwich. Started well, went on a bender sometime mid-afternoon, but thank goodness for a quiet evening at home to recover some semblance of functionality.

G’night, folks! 💫

A coat of arms has to be impressive, full of symbolism, it's important, it represents an powerful family or person, so you have to think long and hard about its design and take it very seriously.

Or just put some underpants on it.

Anglophone attitudes to Celtic languages are *wild*. Imagine being this upset about somebody speaking French or Italian?
Being a professional full-time "opinion columnist" is akin to a career as a Victorian hat maker.

It doesn't matter how stable, thoughtful, and intelligent you are at the outset; the working conditions will inevitably turn you into a dribbling, incoherent lunatic.
