It could take decades to recover from where we are.
My teen, who had dreamt of being an astrophysicist, just told me he wants to go to law school because, “Science isn’t going to be a priority in the US in the future…I don’t want a job where I’ll be constantly worried my funding will be taken away.”

Gutting. How many future scientists have we lost?

I’m starting to feel like an old-timey telephone switchboard operator when I check texts, plugging and unplugging lines, connecting people and topics and schedules and giving short responses and rushing to get out of the way so others can move forward and I’m feeling hurried but sitting still.

The idea that stuck with me: balancing patience & urgency.

Just yesterday, my team of SpEd Ts was discussing the difficulty of holding a sense of urgency for our HS Ss while patiently waiting for that point when they can do so themselves.

No easy answers, but we all sit with that in varying ways.

Every single one of us will either become sick, injured, or otherwise disabled in time. The true measure of humanity's strength is not in a show of brutality against each other. Nature itself is a ravening force, and it would've eaten us alive if we did not make an effort to care for anyone else.

Handing back student work that’s been written by ChatGPT with a 0 followed by the comment “This essay will never stand in authentic wonder before the Beauty of God’s creation.”
Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’

one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

Excellent as always. I’d also add that this man wants women to dress in a way where he doesn’t have to manage the thoughts and feelings he’s experiencing.

And instead of simply noting a simple attraction and moving on with his day, he embarrasses his wife with his words and actions.

We can do away with it without a new Supreme Court. Nor do we need a constitutional amendment. There’s a far simpler way to get rid of Citizens United. Let me explain. https://robertreich.substack.com/p/how-to-get-rid-of-citizens-united

This is awesome. I hope also that they are all paying with pennies and are carefully counting out the exact change as they reach the checkout.
In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17¢ ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.
