Climate pragmatists have resigned to a half-hearted approach to minimizing global warming—but they are “downright oblivious to the implications of a 3 degrees–warmer world,” Peter Brannen argues.
Our Almost-Apocalyptic Climate Future
By shooting for 3 degrees Celsius of warming, the world could slide toward a more cataclysmic 4 degrees.

Auch hierzulande – nicht nur in den USA – gilt mehr und mehr:

"The cruelty is the point!"

There are no words in the English language to describe the suicidal self-serving intentional stupidity of these people. They are signing the death warrants of children and grandchildren, their's and ours. For what? To have power over a failing nation and a dying world.

like if you put a product on the market where there’s a non-zero chance that it’s going to “proactively instigate the death by suicide of a child” and lots of people tell you that’s obviously gonna happen and you do it anyway and then it happens,,, how is that not a crime ?

Not sure how I came across this book on Libby, through a late-night hopescrolling search for climate/collapse content?, but I‘m glad. So helpful for me at a time where I’m sadly not in the countryside but a 3rd-floor apt (thankfully with great neighbors). It‘s realistic, empowering, and funny too!

First impression:

Genuinely uplifting for a disaster prep book. I really needed that.

Any frame operating under the assumption we’re in a country with a functioning rule of law is flawed.

The reframe must be that the Republicans will follow the rule of law when it benefits them, weaponize it against dissidents when it protects them, and ignore or dismantle it when it obstructs them.
The Supreme Court Might Be About to Turbocharge ICE Even More Than Trump’s Big Bill
The court will not write Trump’s deportation policy. But it may write the rule that makes it unstoppable.
