Oh good grief. This is what happens when we devalue expertise. Journalists, Librarians, Booksellers, Writers, literally ANYONE WHO READS could have made a real list of real books that actually exist.
Yep- the bogus summer reading list from the Chicago Sun Times is real. Here I am with it from a few minutes ago.

A reminder that when the cynical and now MAGA-friendly Mark Zuckerberg makes claims about alleged Biden administration pressure on FB over Covid misinformation, and screams 'Censorship!', he's also the guy who admitted his *uncensored* company played a big role in inciting a *literal genocide*:
Facebook Admits It Was Used to Incite Violence in Myanmar (Published 2018)
The company, citing a human rights report it commissioned, said it was moving to prevent further abuses of its platform in Myanmar. Critics said they were unconvinced.

These are two amazing artists. The fact one of America's foremost modern Jewish chroniclers of the Holocaust is turning to Gaza should also not be lost on anyone
Maus author Art Spiegelman’s next comic will be about Gaza, in collaboration with Joe Sacco. He thinks he will struggle to find a publisher in the United States.

“I’ll finish this thing or die trying.”
Art Spiegelman Won’t Shrink Back From Controversy
The artist has illustrated more than one contentious New Yorker cover in his career, chronicled in a new film, and his next project will be no less gutsy.

My top mobility policy of 2024: Higher parking fees for huge cars

Paris is tripling parking costs for oversized cars. Montreal, Lyon, & Cologne are taking similar steps.

Giant cars worsen pollution and safety, and they use more curb space. Owners should pay extra.

The city authorities say that large cars pollute more and are dangerous for pedestrians. Opponents say the mayor is on a crusade against motorists.

The story of Jan 6 is like this now. Trump supporters throw out several different and sometimes contradictory explanations: that it was a just cause, that it wasn’t a big deal, that the FBI did it. The point isn’t to convince but to sow doubt in the truth… of an insurrection attempt incited by lies.

A key to the success of the whole Bari Weiss grift is that a lot of top media people actually sympathize with it. She pretends it's like pirate radio but it's actually a major strain of thinking throughout mainstream media.
News: Chuck Lane, deputy opinion editor for The Washington Post, is leaving the newspaper.

Can confirm it takes years and years and years and is deeply humiliating and that’s if you’re lucky enough to have both parents be ok with it and live in a country that supports care (like Canada, for now)
It’s genuinely shocking if you’re remotely familiar with the basic facts of trans care and youth medicine.

It is *profoundly* difficult to access gender-affirming care as a minor and the Times has printed more than a dozen articles implying that it is too easy.
in hindsight the NYT anti-trans crusade is one of the most despicable things that any big time journalism outfit in this country has ever done. a perfect and clearly intentional layup for the fascists on the Supreme Court

Donald Trump didn’t win by a historic landslide. It’s time to nip that lie in the bud | Mehdi Hasan
In 2024, we have a new post-election lie – Trump didn’t just win, Republicans say, but he won big. He won a landslide. That’s false

We visited ours today to file our toddler’s first-ever passport application. It’s a major public service not all libraries offer, so we are super thankful this is a thing here. The whole process took just an hour (including a stop for pastries).
