Social Security is not paying large sums of money to people who are over 150 years old.

That finding, trumpeted by Elon Musk, turned out to be a glitch in the recordkeeping, not evidence of massive fraud.

How Investigative Journalists Actually Find Fraud, Waste and Abuse
While investigative journalists immerse themselves in minutiae to identify waste and fraud, Elon Musk’s team has taken a chainsaw approach to spending based on cursory examinations. That might help…

Holy buckets. LIHEAP is a literal life saver. I needed to use it back in Philly when I was in recovery and wasn't able to work much. People will freeze/sweat to death. Guaranteed.

Fascinating how having Bluesky share button has become a symbol of a pub's proximity to Team Elon. NYT, AP, Guardian, TPM have it. WaPo, WSJ, Politico, Axios do not.

Notable thing is that Bluesky has much higher engagement rates, even agst a small smaller user base, at least in nominal terms.

The “methods for doing so” are (1) getting two thirds of Congress and three fourths of the states to repeal the 22nd Amendment and (2) declaring himself king.

That’s it.

Stop treating this despotic bullshit as if it’s some worthwhile thought experiment we have to consider as legitimate.
President Trump did not rule out the possibility of seeking a third term in the White House, which is prohibited by the Constitution under the 22nd Amendment, saying in an exclusive interview with NBC News that there were methods for doing so and clarifying that he was “not joking.”
Trump won’t rule out seeking a third term in the White House, tells NBC News ‘there are methods’ for doing so
President Donald Trump said in a Sunday-morning phone call that he was “not joking” about a third term, adding that “it is far too early to think about it.”

This is not a drill. This is not just Sunday. This is the ’dictator for a day’ guy publicly announcing on a storied legacy media outlet that he plans to overturn the US Constitution and American democracy as we know it.

It's not just that "every accusation is a confession"; it's also that every accusation is a RATIONALIZATION. The lie that the other side is rigging elections rationalizes vote suppression. The lie that legitimate investigations are "weaponizing government" is the excuse to weaponize government.

Wisconsin law is clear. As election law expert Rick Hasen wrote, "Musk’s activities appear to violate the plain meaning of the statute. He’s offering a chance to win a million dollars, which is a thing of value, and it’s only offered to people who have voted."

The issue is not whether norms are observed. It is whether a strategy is being implemented. Right now, there is no opposition strategy that is evident in DC. By contrast, we are seeing D AGs implementing a strategy they developed over months in the courts to substantial success. 1/
Murphy: "If we continue to observe norms, if we continue to engage in business as usual, this democracy could be gone. I don't think we have a year to save American democracy. I think the way the president is acting ... puts out democracy at immediate risk."
