These comments by the PM are once again a blatant punching down on Wellington, where groundbreaking, transformative projects are already underway. Perhaps he should look at his own policy choices – like the recent decision to slash pay for women on low incomes.

Stuff covered our current scores for Aotearoa here, with comments and context from a range of experts: www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3503...

The budget doesn’t seem to address any of these longstanding concerns.

Sadly, it looks like we'll be publishing bad scores for NZ for years to come.

Over the last two weeks I’ve noticed an increase of people out in public hacking up their lungs, sniffling and sneezing. I DON’T WANT WHATEVER YOU’VE GOT.

Not to mention loads of my kids’ classmates and teachers sick at the moment.

We’ve learned nothing.

Why it works:
🔹 The public is swayed by perceived consensus
🔹 Politicians respond to visible “public demand”
🔹 Media often fails to distinguish real grassroots from astroturf

👉 We trust crowds — even fake ones

Astroturfing is the creation of fake grassroots movements that appear to be organic public opinion but are actually orchestrated by governments, corporations, or interest groups.

Making economic growth the overriding purpose, to which all else must be sacrificed, not only trashes ecological and social values. It's also spectacularly bad politics. Governments can't control growth, but when it dips, this government, by its own criteria, fails. A rod for its own back.

One thing that the general public is not that aware of re: Tesla is that *they do not manufacture their own battery cells*

They lease space in their factories for third-parties such as Panasonic.

A lot of people invested in Tesla because they thought Tesla was vertically integrated re: the cells.

This language is absolutely designed to stigmatise empathy alongside making it easier to dehumanise other people to the point that inequitable policies are much easier to progress because those with privilege have been inculcated to believe equity feels like oppression.
