51km/h: 80% fatal to pedestrians.
65km/h: 100% fatal to pedestrians.

Both of those are big problems, especially on a street going through so much residential land.

this is true, but otoh the "I feel like someone ad hommed me in Cultural Studies class" to "you know, fascists have a point" pipeline is real
I will never understand how American elites managed to convince themselves that uncivil debate — not fascism, not impunity and not widespread indifference to facts — is the defining problem of our time.

Toronto could lose the green building standards we’ve had for 15 years if Doug Ford’s #Bill17 goes ahead.

@thestar.com reports that developers are against the plan… probably because they don’t have to pay when poorly built homes flood or have high energy costs.

Add your voice below:

Premier Ford is fast-tracking another gift for developers: Bill 17. He's pushing it through so fast it won't even go to committee to be discussed.

Time is running out.

We've broken down what this means for Ontario and how we can stop it: torontoenvironment.org/premier_ford... #ONpoli

Excellent Globe and Mail op-ed from @jenniferkeesmaat.bsky.social. Says "if we continue to invest in density without investing in the spaces that make density livable, we are setting our cities up for failure." #TOpoli #ONpoli #cdnpoli www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/arti...
Opinion: By letting public spaces and services fail, our cities are breaking a fundamental promise to the people who live there
Cities can’t honestly sell people on urban density if they cannot assure them that the infrastructure needed will be provided

OMG please fill out this survey if you’ve ever routinely taken the “Sufferin Bus” because for the 15 years I’ve been taking that route, traffic has gotten worse and Dufferin St. most definitely needs priority lanes and you know it too! #TOpoli
We’re considering priority bus lanes on Dufferin from King to Eglinton to ease congestion and improve service for 40K+ TTC riders.

We value your input — take the survey today to provide feedback on the #RapidTO transit improvements. 🚌

Not just gridlock. App-driven precious employment actually leads drivers to take more risks while driving - making the roads less safe for everyone #TOpoli #ONpoli
Once again, Brad Bradford is barking up the wrong tree by opposing limiting Uber & Lyft in response to the Trump Tariffs. If he truly cared about fighting gridlock, he would have supported capping or even reducing the number of Uber & Lyft drivers given they worsen gridlock. #shame #TOpoli #Never51
Councillor Bradford moves to strike the part of the Trade War Plan that limits use of U.S-based rideshare companies like Uber.

He says these ride-share companies employ lots of people in Toronto. "These are good jobs. They are important jobs." He warns about making workers "collateral damage."

For as long as this tariff circus plays out, the obscenely wealthy Canadian elite will mobilize maudlin patriotism to get you to buy their shit, even while they raise prices way beyond what they would 'need' to to cover their extra costs. YOU will pay for the trade war, Galen Weston will not.

An election is coming. Soundbites and hyperbole will flood the media. Don't fall for the government's repeated "only one percent" misdirection.

The province's own data commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation confirms that riding a bike is only growing as a mode of transportation in Toronto.
