The precise moment when and where in recent weeks America crossed that invisible line from democracy into authoritarianism can and will be debated by future historians, but it’s clear that the line itself has been crossed. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/america-ti...

Oasis covered I am the Walrus at Knebworth in 1996, at that point a classic song. That song was released in 1967, 29 years earlier. We are now the same 29 years since this classic Knebworth performance

Another six-byline alarm on DOGE’s specious accounting.

“That contract wasn’t canceled by DOGE or anyone else,” he said. “If they took credit for canceling the contract, they’re lying.”

Thread: With the rise to power of fascism, in the US, & its persecution & criminalisation of LGBTQ people, I want to share the important story of a gay Dutch resistance martyr.

He said: ‘Let it be known that homosexuals are not cowards.’

i mean, i feel like we can all agree it was a nazi salute. the questions are (a) did he mean it to be a nazi salute, and (b) how much benefit of the doubt do we give a guy who brought back nazis to twitter, publicly backs germany's far-right party, and is being cheered by neo-nazis for the salute?

Evidence has demonstrated this effect in numerous cities now.

I understand why it sounds weird to say, 'building a bunch of fancy new townhouses and skyscrapers will make housing more affordable!' but it simply appears to be true.
So proud of the great work happening in Minneapolis, which shows that boosting housing supply helps make homes more affordable.

Op-ed from Seth Moulton.
*"We were the be the party of free speech" - which party is banning books and prohibiting speech on campus?
*The idea that the great policy achievements of the Dems were built on being the party of free speech seems like, uh, a bit of leap of logic that undermines his claim

"We need to widen our tent" by doing what exactly? Harris did not run on culture issues, but she should have responded to anti-trans ads how?
Moulton was not cancelled. His seat is not in danger. He is just angry at harsh criticism and turning it into a diagnosis of Whats Wrong With Dems. Bad take.

Presenting Trump as a rhetorical model to follow seems troubling. If we were to take it seriously, who are the populist targets of Democratic rage? Yesterday's Bluesky dialogue was whether the Dems had screwed up by being too critical of Silicon Valley.

I believe this is correct. And you as a user have the option to control your feed as to whether you see reposts, replies, etc. And I find especially using “hide post for me” as a way to address when everyone is sharing the same post and I’m tired of seeing it.
My one constructive criticism on BlueSky, as a community: we need to “like” less and “retweet” more. In the absence of an algorithm, that’s the way we find each other and reward good content.

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
