The joke is there aren’t really any cities of any significant size with republican leadership.

Why do you think I’m a secret technofacist? I have never interacted with you
September 6, 2025 at 5:54 PM
I’m lying? Ok, who’s acting in bad faith now…
September 6, 2025 at 5:44 PM
I didn’t read it as looking to be China for a day. I read it as looking to be Paris

Man, every political movement involves tradeoffs. If you can’t easily explain why a pariticular coalition that gets you most of what you want is bad, you’re just cosplaying in politics. Politics has to bring together people that don’t always agree
September 6, 2025 at 4:39 PM
Maybe I missed it, but how is the left funding and legitimizing technofascists?
September 6, 2025 at 4:34 PM
I’m asking it in good faith. I like Yimby, I liked the ideas in the Abundance book, and I don’t like technofascists. Given that the primary pushback against abundance are from nimbys, I think it’s a reasonable question to ask
September 6, 2025 at 4:34 PM
In your mind, is there a distinction between central planning and government funding for projects that can’t reasonably be built by the private sector (like mass transit)? Not sure how get large infrastructure built without some government planning
September 6, 2025 at 4:32 PM
This is just too nuanced of a take. These are the most powerful people in the world. They don’t like nimby’s, so if nimby’s are succcessfully crushed, they will claim credit. There is no effective coalition to gather that threads this needle
September 6, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Love this idea. Is this different from abundance?
September 6, 2025 at 3:20 PM
I’m sympathetic to the nazi bar problem, but I more concerned that the opposition to abundance are lefty-nimbys, which is way more concerning to me. I really don’t see anyone effectively arguing pro-yimby/anti-abundance
September 6, 2025 at 3:18 PM
Love YIMBY, but functionally YIMBY = abundance, right? Are there politicians running on pro-yimby/anti-abundance agenda?
September 6, 2025 at 2:52 PM
What’s the ideological umbrella advocating for more housing that isn’t technofascist coded?
September 6, 2025 at 12:12 PM
Everyone is focused on this. There were a million pieces written on this and its a key element of her lawsuit against the government

Eh, it’s a bit like getting mad at the glue factory because your beloved horse had gotten elderly and sick. Most of these businesses were kept alive far longer than they would otherwise have been

I work for such a company. We are legion
June 21, 2025 at 5:58 PM
They are fake savings (which I think is what you are saying too), but they count as real for performace target achievement for many companies, which is really all that matter to execs. No one gets bonuses for filling up an office
June 21, 2025 at 5:38 PM
Brother, what do you think EBITDA adjustments are?
June 21, 2025 at 5:24 PM
Ah, but this is where the magic of EBITDA adjustments come in…
June 21, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Well sure, the commercial office REITs are terrified and have the potential of being the next financial meltdown, but I’m not sure what sway they have on back to office initiatives
June 21, 2025 at 4:06 PM
Maybe so. I’ve never worked for people that didn’t understand expense reports
June 21, 2025 at 3:57 PM
There are a lot of reasons why boomer CEOs want workers in office, but justifying the rent they are paying isn’t one of them. Companies love to yield savings from leasing less space when they can. That’s a lot of the savings from downsizing
