In 1975 I had a space hopper and death was fifty years further away than it is now. Whose idea was it to replace space hoppers with looming mortality? I reckon they should swap them back.

Anyone know if there's a precedent for a road that's a public right of way but that excludes cyclists? It's a private residential area in Sheffield (old Victorian hospital) and the road is festooned with signs. But seems a bit fishy to me?

1. In the wake on Mamdani’s win, we’ll see a lot more far right anti-urban sentiment. Here’s a thread on its roots and evolution.

The idea that the city is evil and corrupt, and the countryside innocent and pure, goes back a long way: to Theocritus in Alexandria, and to the Old Testament. 🧵

Great to see @geoffnorcott.bsky.social advertising the local leisure centre in Sheffield. Seems to have done him the power of good, although I'm worried he might find the vibe whiffs a little too much of toxic masculinity.

Another reason why Ticketmaster are cunts is that they won't let you leave a single seat, even when you want to buy two of the last three seats left in a row, and by the time you realise this they are all gone and you didn't get tickets for Richard Hawley at Sheffield City hall the week before Xmas.

Live in England? Would you like a £50 reduction in your insurance. If England had followed Wales in 2023 with its national 20mph adoption it would have also saved 30,000 casualties over last 2 years and reduced insurance costs by £2bn for drivers bit.ly/4gIBPlJ

Hello #Sheffield brewers. I just picked a carrier bag full of hops from my allotment. It will be a mix of variety as I'm not sure which ones actually came up in the end. Perhaps some Chinook and Golding but they're all in together. 1.5kg all together. Anyone who can use them is welcome to them.

Pedal through any Dutch city, and it feels like it’s always been filled with red cycle paths. But the fact is urban cycling infrastructure didn’t exist anywhere until 1975, when a trial project in Tilburg laid the basis of a national standard for legibility, comfort, and status for people on bikes.🧵
