Here's an odd illusion: look at a picture of Edgar Allan Poe and you may think that he looks slightly, though not very much, like Kenneth Connor in Carry On Girls. But if you then look at a picture of Kenneth Connor, you'll see that he doesn't, particularly. This is known as the Poe-Connor Effect.

I liked it better when stuff like this was the backbone of the Viz letters page rather than what we decided to replace politics with.
Reform UK’s Lee Anderson wants to bring back the ‘invalid carriage’.

The Invacar was banned from English roads in 2003 over safety fears after some overturned and others caught fire.

SgtPepper montage 10 years project is go.
See the link to find out about the book, exhibition, auction and the charity.
Please consider backing the book. If it doesn't get funded, it doesn't get made and you don't pay anything. If it does, you get a fantastic book!

One of my favourite sections of "Schott's Significa" … a collection of comic strip conventions — penned by the legendary @vizcomic.bsky.social toonist @daveyjones.bsky.social

Well chuffed to have had a small involvement in Schott's Significa, the highly addictive new book by the author of Schott's Original Miscellany. It's a field guide to linguistic subcultures, and I collaborated on the section about the conventions of the comic strip.

"11-year-old Jumbo Musk was the shittest schoolboy in Barnton. For he had his very own shit robot army made up of shit remote-controlled robots that didn't work very well, because they were shit."
ELON MUSK: “If we build this robot army, do I have at least a strong influence over this robot army? … I don't feel comfortable building that robot army unless I have a strong influence.” Read the full piece from @aarianmarshall.bsky.social on @wired.com www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

I came to Jonathan Creek very late in the day, because I'd always somehow assumed that it wouldn't be my kind of thing. But it turned out that it couldn't have been more my kind of thing if it had come out of a box of kind-of-things with the word 'MINE' embossed on the lid.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.
