Seconded. That last line hits hard.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

Absolute debasement of academic standards
*student submits opinion in psych class
*gets bad grade
*instructor says she can make whatever arguments she wants but must draw on empirical sources
*student & Turning Point says her religious freedom & first amendment rights violated
*professor suspended
OU has put the professor here on administrative leave:

I think a genuinely under appreciated risk for places like Texas & other sunbelt states is what happens to their universities & associated economies if their politics keeps getting consumed by Trumpism. It’s a huge opportunity for blue states if we can get our act together on housing (huge if).
This was in response to a post where I said I was happy I didn’t move to Tulsa lol

I read the NYT Marin e-bike story about a teen who fell while trying out a borrowed illegal e-moto. We don't ban all cars because someone crashed an illegally modified car on the streets.
A car can hit a cyclist & throw them much faster than the speed of an e-moto. Helmets won't save them

The people who thought eliminating objective standards for college admissions for the sake of diversity were not successful. They were actually paving the way for people like this semi-literate conservative to ruin higher education.

I’m always confused when people complain about cyclists not stopping at stop signs.

The vast majority of drivers do a “rolling stop” (i.e., they don’t actually stop) when possible.

This is so normal people don’t even see it as breaking the law, but when cyclists do the same thing, it stands out.

This is un-American bullshit.
If you are married to a US spouse, your temporary visa (usually for 3 months) will lapse before your case is processed. The government allowed you could stay in the US while awaiting case processing. Now the Trump admin is saying that is a visa overstay and arresting the spouses.

One of the only good things to happen this year.

I agree insofar as I, market liberal that I am, don't even dislike the substance. But it's both wrong for the moment and, as campaign comms, a pretty mediocre slogan in that you have to think a second to process what it even means. Something that requires you to visualize a chart is too complicated.
This will probably get me yelled at, because I can see the consensus forming here that "strong floors, no ceiling" is the dumbest of all possible slogans. I would argue that it's actually not that bad, but that it's wrong for this moment (please read 🧵before yelling at me)...

Old Man Marley after saving Kevin McCallister from having his fingers bitten off by burglars: Your parents aren't home? Huh, weird. Anyway, time for me to leave you alone all night.
The McCallister family is charged $122.50 for 10 large pizzas (delivered) in the 1990 film Home Alone.

$122.50 in 1990 is equivalent to $297.37 in current dollars.

10 large pepperoni pizzas from my neighborhood pizzeria, Ballston Local, inclusive of delivery fees, is $300.70.

In Arlington the NIMBYs pretend sewers are going to explode if we build duplexes
If anyone ever says that more people in a city would overtax public infrastructure, it's a good time to ask: "what infrastructure?"
SF has:
- declining school enrollment
- the best access to urban rec and park space in California
- sewer, water and other utilities under capacity. In Western SF more density makes it more affordable to serve these locations
- better transit access thru Muni Forward improvements

I think this may be an important turn. ”Secretary Hegseth deserves a chance to tell his side of the story.” is actually a sharp turn from the administration’s position that they don’t need to justify their actions. I think they may be losing Congress.
GOP Rep. Don Bacon: "I don't think Secretary Hegseth would be foolish enough to make this decision to say, 'Kill everybody. Kill the survivors,' because that's a clear violation of the law of war."

It, um, would not go so well for the current guy.
