There is a way to harmonize these two facts in that Harris ran as a prosecutor but voters didn't buy it because of extremely unpopular stances taken by a large swathe of major party figures in 2020.
It's so funny to me that the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024 was a former prosecutor who made that a part of her pitch, and the latest postmortem from The (centrist) Groups says "voters reject Democratic policies like prison abolitionism."

this is an elite thing, but i also just see it among my lib friends--the feeling that even knowing stuff about how modern militaries operate is a bit distasteful, impure, sus--"why are you so interested in all that military stuff? isn't that a conservative thing?"

I get that natalists often make gross arguments, but that doesn't mean that current population dynamics aren't going to make people's lives measurably worse in both the short and long term. Much of Europe is already feeding its seed corn into the grey maw and likely will have to increase that.
