NEW: The White House intervened on behalf of accused sex trafficker Andrew Tate during a federal investigation.

“It was so offensive to what we’re all here to do, to uphold the law and protect the American people,” one official involved said.

And that's AFTER, they tossed out lots of authors they identified as having their work stolen.

Because the formality of registering the copyright (which exists from the moment of creation, until after you die) wasn't done.

If they had to pay everyone...

Authors, you know what to do.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action

Just the president of the United States rationalizing that a Washington Post reporter was basically asking to be murdered and cut to pieces with a bone saw because of his reporting.

As he sits next to the thug who ordered it.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

Noontime thoughts: so one way the Overton Window gets pulled to the right is to not hold Republicans accountable for their complicity with Trump's actions and agenda, especially AFTER they "recant" or "break" with Trump. When they do that, their prior actions still need to be addressed and fixed.

Early afternoon thoughts: Trump and his minions have always acted like the legal system was there to be gamed, and Trump acts on that assumption. Vindictive prosecution, failure to comply with court orders, evidence tampering, and so on. Trump isn't a president, he's a crime boss - and acts like it.

Mid-morning thoughts: hang on to your hats, I'm going to say something nice about John McCain. In 2008, a woman in Minnesota said Barack Obama was "an Arab" and McCain defended Obama's character, telling people to not spread false rumors about him. The GOP today clearly thinks differently.

The definition of audacity: ICE asking WA tribes to host detention centers.

They got a very polite “fuck off.”

I don’t want anyone to receive threats, but for many years Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has enjoyed this sort of energy from President Trump when it’s been directed at her political enemies and now objects to it when she’s on the receiving end.

Late morning thoughts: Trump has never thought obeying the law and the Constitution. Trump has dodged legal accountability for decades. Why should that change while is president, especially when SCOTUS enables him? If anybody is going to hold the Trump regime accountable, it has to be us.

Early morning thoughts: what with Derek Chauvin, ICE, Border Patrol, and everything else wrong with law enforcement, it is difficult to watch ANY police show in popular media and not think it's propaganda designed to make LEOs look good, even the "grim'n'gritty" ones. It's unsettling to think about.

Early morning thoughts: some have suggested that President Obama's jokes at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner "provoked" Trump to run for president. Maybe - but what Trump is doing now to destroy Obama's legacy is entirely Trump's fault. Suggesting otherwise is blaming the victim.

Late afternoon thoughts: how did we end up with "moderate" Democrats in the Senate giving away their negotiating power? The reason is clear: since 1980, we have elected Democrats to Congress who have followed along as the GOP has dragged the Overton Window to the right.
