So much of the internet down with the AWS issues. A painful reminder that even some more ethical services rely on Amazon. Who’s got alternatives to recommend? I’ve spotted @autonomic.zone’s Co-op Cloud for small tech providers.

Most communities have zero experience or capital to self host anything. That's why they all end up on discord.

What are we doing to fix that?

What if your community could pool storage to self host it's own images? What if the network of compute that runs the service was maintained cooperatively?
hyl.st sōm @hyl.st · Jul 28
I want to see this spirit from more self hosters, and those that develop self-hosted software. Designing for communities means lower the barriers to entry for _hosting_, and thinking carefully about identity and on-boarding, more than about what license to use.
I feel that even though self-hosting may be less desirable than a community solution, it’s the best solution _now_ for escaping our oligarchic tech hellhole. Give me the community solution with some real guarantees — not just promises — and I’ll drop my self-hosting solution like a hat.

To the folks who insist worker ownership isn't compatible with "human nature"—we have empirical research over decades that shows the exact opposite. Worker ownership and participation are linked to increases in satisfaction and productivity. Psychological ownership is a real, studied phenomenon.

Hi folks, we've received feedback about the pricing for our docs.coop hosting.

We've decided to drop the price to £30/mo for a small Docs instance. This comes with an SSO provider (such as Keycloak or Authentik).

Hit us up at boop@autonomic.zone if need help deGoogling your office suite!
We're thrilled to announce our new project: docs.coop!

Building on the great work of Suite Numerique (docs.numerique.gouv.fr), we're offering an opportunity to be part of a new collaborative Docs platform as a service, that provides an ethical alternative to Google Docs, Office 365, Notion etc.
