Can we talk more about autoimmune diseases and neurodivergence?

Research demonstrates links between psoriasis and ADHD, IBD and autism, plus multiple autoimmune diseases and OCD.

To ignore this fact is to ignore the daily reality & challenges that autoimmune folks face.
I'm forever reminded of the Tupac lyric: "They got money for war, but can't feed the poor"...
It costs the average taxpayer $34 a year to fund SNAP.

It costs nearly $200 a day to detain an immigrant in an ICE camp.

Your tax dollars are paying to detain people without due process instead of providing healthcare, food & housing.

Let that radicalize you.

Watching RFK jr run away from someone collapsing feels like a harbinger of things to come

It's done! One in each arm.

✅️ COVID 💉
✅️ Flu 💉

18 years ago, I got very sick with strep & the flu simultaneously. My psoriasis first appeared soon after. This is a well-known phenomenon.

Now, I simply do not play with respiratory infections. Hard pass 👋

If you live with an autoimmune disease, there's a good chance that you're no stranger to joint pain.

It totally *could* be gluten, nightshades, or sugar causing your joint pain...

... but it's much more likely that you're deficient in an essential nutrient, like omega-3 fatty acids.

You don't have to pick a category and can comment anonymously.

My comment: "Limiting COVID vaccine access is an absurb policy that's based in pseudoscience and divisive politics, not actual science or genuine public health. Please, stop this insanity."

Wow, what a terrifying account.

I've said it before & I'll say it again: once autoimmune disease causes permanent organ damage, there's no going back.

It's, well, permanent.
Wrath keeps overtaking me everytime I think about RFK. Why? I'm a type 1 diabetic. I got it when I was 14. Guess what you need if you're a type 1 diabetic? Insulin. Or you die. But my family believed that it could be cured with herbs & faith healing. I had a near death experience when I was 14. 🧵

New Yorkers, keep calling your NY State Senator and Assemblymember! They're trying to wear us down, but we've already gotten them to shift their mask ban policy. Our pushback is working! Keep going!

I'm in the middle of preparing a presentation that will be given to doctors about nutrition interventions for psoriasis (an autoimmune disease) for the National Psoriasis Foundation.

This makes my slides on the correlation between psoriasis and ADHD so much darker and heavier...
"In its founding documents, the MAHA Commission... singled out autoimmune diseases, autism, and ADHD, which it said “pose a dire threat to the American people and our way of life” and “harm us, our economy, and our security.”

You can eat all organic food, drink green juice every day, do yoga, get vitamin D and touch grass… and still become disabled.

Wellness culture can’t save you from disability. What’s worse, most wellness “gurus” will blame you when you become ill.

Wellness culture is toxic & eugenics adjacent.

I have an autoimmune disorder and I wouldn’t wish this shit on anyone EXCEPT JK Rowling ¨̮

If you feel out of control when eating, the FIRST THING you should ask yourself is:

➡️ Was my food intake recently restricted for any reason?

Maybe you've been eating less bc you've been busy, for a medical reason, u were sick, you're trying to lose weight, been on a diet - any reason at all. 1/3

I quit my last hospital job less than a year ago... myself & a few nurse assistants were the only people who regularly wore N95s on patient floors.

I watched over & over & over as nurses walked into COVID isolation rooms without bothering to put on PPE.

You can guess one major reason why I quit...
Hospitals and health authorities across Canada that brought back some form of masking (usually in certain areas of the facility) for “respiratory virus season” are now announcing the end of masking. Note: COVID is not seasonal. And HAI Covid will rise.

🤣🤣🤣
After hearing how eating sugar, gluten, and dairy affects people with autoimmune disorders, I’ve decided to cut back on the amount of people I listen to
April 14, 2025 at 10:13 PM
The GUILT, though 😮‍💨

Constantly reminding my patients (& myself!) that rest is important, necessary, & always deserved.

We need to say it over & over & over - because wow that guilt trip is persistently intrusive 😩
Living with chronic illness is hard enough without letting guilt stop us from accessing what we need

Capitalism & ableism condition us to see rest as failure. To feel bad for needing help

Accessibility IS resistance. Survival is a way of fighting back

Rest. Get that mobility aid. Ask for help.

What is the FIRST step you should take if you're living with autoimmune fatigue?

Start taking a multivitamin.

Why? Because fatigue is a symptom of multiple nutrient deficiencies. Many of these can be corrected by simply taking a multivitamin.

Take it with breakfast or a meal earlier in the day.
April 12, 2025 at 4:34 PM
To me, it seems like some basic slight of hand: they tell us what we want to hear, then proceed to do the exact opposite.
If MAHA truly wanted to tackle the chronic illness epidemic, they would provide the following:

Free respirators, Covid/flu tests and vaccines

Clean air in public spaces

Paid time off & paid childcare

Mandatory masking in
healthcare

Universal healthcare & basic income

Friendly reminder from your neighborhood dietitian:

When it comes to nutrition, the goal is NOT perfection ❌️

The goal is to do a good job - and, sometimes, the goal is just to do good enough ✅️

Trying to eat perfectly will destroy your relationship with food + your body, & leads to orthorexia.

For my lovelies living with autoimmune joint pain AND seasonal allergies -

↪️ Have you heard about quercetin?

Quercetin is not only a well-known natural antihistamine, but also helps with joint pain.

As someone who lives with both & isn't into allergy med side effects - quercetin changed my life.

Period.
All anti-mask laws—even those with so called “medical exceptions”—stigmatize mask-wearing.

Fewer people wearing masks increases the spread of infectious diseases.

No matter how lawmakers try to spin it, any law that criminalizes wearing a mask endangers public health. Period.
