Similar to abortion, it's exasperating seeing "democrats and republicans are the same" when every map of state policy outcomes looks like this - policies so reactionary only federal law holds them at a lower bound in GOP trifecta states and reasonable center-left policies in Dem trifecta states
Jesus dude I didn't realize the $7.25 minimum wage was still in effect anywhere, let alone the entire south

As a confirmed hater of Ivy League news cycles, I worry that Rs have realized you can get incredible content from university presidents. They got their jobs, in part, by taking incomprehensible positions and talking like space aliens, and all you need to do is let 'em rip.

Henry Kissinger, who shaped world affairs under two presidents, dies at 100
He was the only person ever to be White House national security adviser and secretary of state at the same time. He also became the target of relentless critics.

“the midwest looks so boring” can you not comprehend the beauty of a vast, open space? of seeing the entire dome of the sky? of the great titanic relics of long-gone industry that served as the engine of the nation? of seeing lakes so vast they present as seas? skill issue

Policy failure is such a choice. Hurts to see.
So, over the last decade, there’s been a Dem in Texas who’s had a major hand killing criminal justice reforms in the state Senate … even stalling efforts to help address the total crisis of the lack of AC and insane heat in prisons.

That Dem is the frontrunner to be Houston mayor in a few weeks.

John Whitmire, a state senator who’s helped steer criminal justice in Texas for decades, is vowing to deploy state troopers in Houston in his run against U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Two repeated electoral lessons tonight, same as was true in 2022:

1) Going strong on abortion rights continues to be a winning issue for Dems everywhere.

2) Going strong on anti-trans continues to be somewhere between useless and outright harmful for Republicans everywhere.

the reason we're in this mess is because any self-respecting stable democracy would take someone who had explicitly attempted a coup to destroy it and *at least* jail them
Sinister to see the former military title of a would-be authoritarian being invoked in a civil trial. These are not the habits of a stable democracy.
Trump’s lawyer referring to him as a military commander in his civil fraud case is truly bizarre

The reason this bike lane dead-ends into oncoming traffic is because a wealthy donor to Eric Adams complained to his deputy mayor. That deputy mayor’s goddaughter, who led fundraising for Adams’ campaign, had her home raided by the FBI today for covering up illegal foreign donations.

The county brought 'kidnapping' charges against them while a lawsuit challenging the 'abortion-trafficking' law is in court.
