Morning :)

It's day 2 of office wrangling. For a small room, there is a LOT of stuff in here, but progress has been made and hopefully I won't need a day 3...

Minimum word count is just a shade over 1k.

And before all of that: coffee! <3

Morning :)

After yesterday's day off, today needs to be full focus. Impressively, I DID manage to get 1k done on draft 3 despite the day off, leaving me with a minimum of exactly 1k to get finished before the end of the month.

In addition to that, though, there's a few other things I need to do...

EIther 18 or 18.5 - never even seen a waterbed, so that's a definite never-used. The other one's the AOL email - I never had one, but I DID use AIM and had friends who had AOL emails, so it depends how you view 'used'!

Morning :)

Today is (largely) a complete day off. I am eating bonbons and contemplating a day of glorious abandon. There will (inevitably) be a bit of writing, but that's going to be later. Right now, I have a date with Assassin's Creed and my To Read pile <3

In an effort at something good on the internet today: A thread on Mr KJC, gingerbread architect of the early 21st century.

Mr KJC got his beginnings like so many gingerbread architects: with a kit house for the kids. Kind of fun but the premade pieces are dry and nasty, only technically edible.

An excellent thread about a deceptively smart film and some fascinating individuals. And sharp pointy objects. Lots of sharp pointy objects.
As you may know, I have stopped using Twitter, and have decided to reproduce some of my more memorable threads here for posterity. Here’s one I hold wrote after a particularly engaging swordfighting lesson.

Buckle up, swordfighting fans, because I *have* studied my Agrippa!

Morning :)

The start of another week.

After my weekend's efforts, draft 3's daily minimum is just over 1k, but getting more done is obviously going to be beneficial. I also didn't get to the draft 6 formatting, so sorting that out today would be good.

And I've no doubt my clients will want me...

Something exciting is happening- In support of keeping the Chilterns Heritage & Archaeology Partnership afloat (DEFRA monies only go so far), I have been encouraged to launch a lecture series.

(and yes, I asked Sir Baz sometime ago about basing this on his book, so I haven't just nicked the title😅)

Has to be watching Attack of the Clones and getting to the scenes of Anakin and Padme frolicking in the meadow. Virtually everyone spontaniously sang "The hills are alive with the sound of music!" - to the absolute disgust and horror of the two Americans in the room, who weren't expecting Brits*...
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

Friday Fiction: Stepping In

This month's Friday Fiction is a seasonalish one. It's a story of bright lights, famous music and a lot of hard work. It does draw (inevitably) on my experiences helping out with my dance school's shows over the years, but I'm happy to say the three shows I've been…

This month's Friday Fiction is a seasonalish one. It's a story of bright lights, famous music and a lot of hard work. It does draw (inevitably) on my experiences helping out with my dance school's shows over the years, but I'm happy to say the three shows I've been involved with haven't had anything like this happen. (We've had other mishaps, of course, but nothing quite like this!) It also draws on my own experiences of dancing and performing (I didn't end up having to stand in, but I do remember a frantic 48hr period of learning a solo just in case I did!). Obligatory disclaimer: any resemblance between the characters and the real people I know is entirely coincidental. Read Stepping In Happy reading 🙂

Morning :)

It was a hard get-up this morning, but I've made it into the office to do my end-of-week stuff. So, yay?

The day job list started at 10 items and I've already ticked off 3, and none of what remains is challenging - just tedious! I suspect that my clients will find me other stuff...

Was told by a vet that you can 'probably' perform CPR on a snake, and all I could think was...

Alt: A fella in a party hat blowing one of those party streamer things that unroll as you blow into them. Whether snakes give a merry toot when you do this to them isn't mentioned in the scientific literature. Yet.

Morning :)

Looking wintery this morning (as is fairly valid for the middle third of December!) but not actually precipitating...yet.

The day job list is up to 4, two of which are client calls that may well add items to the list, so if I can clear the other two, that would be good.

Awww... love this! 🐱
I’ve posted this before but the light was perfect today- a little Victorian cat paw in a brick at the front of the old Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. As this is on the front-facing corner of the main gates, the bricklayer quite clearly put it there on purpose, at a height where children would spot it.

Listening to the wind howl around the chimneypots makes me very glad I can work from home! So fairylights and fluffy socks on and down to work it is!
