Surely something as good and pure as AI Jesus could never be abused or corrupted and turned into a tool of an authoritarian dystopian society, can you imagine such a thing

Cuomo's Election Night party's yacht-rock playlist is now playing Bon Jovi's “Livin’ on a Prayer,” which is even more on the nose than “Don't Go Breaking My Heart,” which they played 20 minutes ago

Coverage of mamdani (every word endlessly scrutinized, wildly bad faith interpretations of everything he says) vs coverage of trump (sanitizing every quote, ignoring his nonsense or paraphrasing it into what reporters wish he had said) is so instructive as to how in the tank the press is for the GOP

I remember when a NYT columnist spent a third of their column recapitulating The Dark Knight just to use “some men just want to watch the world burn,” so I think I'd rather see “red-pilled” enter the mainstream than have some other fuddy-duddy feel obliged to rehash the entire premise of The Matrix
This piece uses the term “red-pilled” without defining it. It’s basically a twitter thread expanded to column length with the byline sanded off.

Just as an aside, I worked at Miramax during some of the Clinton years and we would send two versions of movies to the White House. Regular version for Bill and Hillary, and an airplane/TV (censored) version for Al and Tipper Gore.
Jimmy Carter watched over 480 movies in the White House movie theater during his presidency, a lot of them all time bangers

"Wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus" might be the most astounding seven words any NYC mayoral candidate has ever spoken.

You mean the guy who’s ordered the Navy to fire on fishing boats in the Caribbean, who’s sending troops into his own cities, that guy DIDN’T win the Nobel Peace Prize? The guy who illegally changed the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War? I’m shocked

This is how the 2018-19 shutdown ended: Trump's rich cronies called him to complain that they couldn't fly in from St. Barth's or wherever because NYC airports were shutting down, and Trump caved that very day.
Sean Duffy says the safety of the air traffic control system will start being impacted next Sunday if the shutdown continues

Twenty-five years ago, Jimmy Kimmel was the joke-monkey sidekick and Ben Stein was supposed to be the class act.

So what's Ben Stein been doing over the past few hours? Addressing the sudden cancellation of his former co-host? Nope, reposting fascists on Truth Social defending Charlie Kirk.

Watching this Eric Adams press conference and realizing that if I close my eyes, I could credibly believe this is all coming out of Tracy Morgan's mouth
NYC Mayor Eric Adams: "It's almost Groundhog Day, folks. How many times have I been told throughout this journey to step aside, to surrender, to give up, to give in?"

There's nothing chaotic about the race! The runaway winner of the Democratic primary has a comfortable ongoing lead in the polls! The only chaotic element is the mind-traffic of the small circle of self-appointed civic elites melting down over their refusal to accept a straightforward situation.
Amazed by the sentence "But the topic has taken on added urgency in New York in recent days as an already chaotic race steams into the last stretch of the campaign season." www.nytimes.com/2025/09/03/n...

a very good thread on this industry
I spent the 2010's arguing with my white colleagues that we were facing a crisis in newsroom diversity. The smart, dedicated, talented cis white journalists I thought of as my friends didn't want to hear it. Most of them ignored me. At least one of them told me to go to hell.
The only thing I can say about this paragraph is read it. Sit with it. Read it again. @michaelharriot.bsky.social

Some people keep saying "AI isn't just probabilities, AI understands," and then AI puts a toilet next to the office desk, both of which are in the kitchen with no sink.

This is not something an entity would do if it "understood" what those things are.
I think the toilet is my favorite part of this weird AI.
