Really not great that all sources of knowledge and knowledge production are under attack at nearly the same time. Really cannot overstate the ties between authoritarianism and the growing attacks on our ability to know what is and what is not real or factual.

I've been learning about the socially-hygienic concept of "person-first language" and in order to display more sensitivity toward the non-normative will henceforth be referring to them as "people stricken with Englishness" rather than the far more offensive "the English"

More people really need to know that academic publishing is one of the dirtiest most exploitative scams ever. Journal access costs an insane amount of money but the authors of studies and papers never, ever see any of it. They aren’t paid for their work at any point. At all.
When you see a peer-reviewed scientific journal article, it often says “pay $35 to read this.”

Anecdotal but: it was funny to be living right now in Ohio and seeing that even in the red parts of our county the GOP messaging pivot to “oh wait vote Yes to stop the gender trans groomers, don’t forget about that” just completely eat shit in the run up to Issue 1 voting.
