White / male / cis / Episcopalian / born citizen; about as privileged as they get; lawyer. He/him.
I've been thinking about the Lord of the Rings discussion from a few weeks back.

"Big, strong men will win the day" is the lesson some people took from it, and I wonder - did they even read it?

The strong have a purpose: to fight against evil. Easy for them, because the evil was apparent.

The ultra wealthy have trained us through propaganda in corporate media to be far more concerned about spending public dollars than white collar theft.

It's our habit now to sort recipients of public dollars into the worthy and the unworthy and the fuss over Greene's pension is an aspect of that.
It’s funny how much traction the pension thing is getting. People are really angry about her getting a pension that she literally earned outright.

MTG has increased her net worth by up to $25 million since taking office (from just $700k!) but people get riled up that she qualified for a pension.
AOC on MTG retiring: "She's carefully timing her departure just 1-2 days after her pension kicks in and after making millions of dollars insider trading stocks for weapons manufacturers and others while in office."

Good and ill have not changed since yesteryear; nor are they one thing among Elves and Dwarves and another among humans. It is a person’s part to discern them, as much in the Golden Wood as in his own house.

Wacky times we're in. Wacky things will happen.

But kindness is still kindness.

In fact, the People should be even more concerned about Nazi tattoos.

There are Nazi sympathizers in power now.

We'd best be really sure not to empower any more.
Three things:

1) No longer classifying swastikas, nooses, and the Confederate flag as hate symbols is quite bad, and in line with many other actions from this admin.

2) Congrats to the cancel culture moral panickers.

3) I don't think a good political response to this is to shrug at Nazi tattoos.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Trans Day of Remembrance is a day to honor and pay tribute to the lives that have been lost due to both systemic and bigoted violence.

It is a day to reassert our commitments to supporting trans, Two-Spirit, and gender diverse people, young and old.

Seems like a good day to revisit why I chose this screen name a little over seven years ago. A 🧵

It was about a week after Jamal Khashoggi was murdered, and the first time (that I know of) that Trump was asked about it.

Humans would never have survived for literally millions of years if they hadn't learned to cooperate and look after each other.

Physical combat wasn't the key.

You can ask any leopard.
Revenge/physical combat was how people settled things for literally millions of years, it's normal human behavior, we're wolves not sheep, the government project trying to social engineer us and domesticate us into sheep has been unsuccessful

Lovely nation the US is right now. Two political parties, one has rotten, corrupt principles the other has no principles whatsoever.

CORPORATE MEDIA IS PARTISAN

That's the only reasonable conclusion for everything we've seen from Whitewater to the rise of Trump.
and yet the intensity of reporting around trump and affordability has not reached 1/10000th the intensity it had under biden. the msm is not emphasizing this issue and its because theyre trying to help trump and the gop.

No, but it is political malpractice of the highest order for any Democrat at this time to use the word "bipartisan" without a sneer or spitting on the ground.
Tim Kaine: "It would be political malpractice of the highest order for the House to not take up a bipartisan bill coming out of the Senate."

They'll see a debate - which most voters can easily ignore - while the rest of the horrors that the GOP inflicts or wants to inflict on the nation and the world are buried under massive piles of BS.
Tim Kaine: "The public will see this debate on healthcare without it being drown out by air traffic delays, SNAP recipients losing benefits, federal employees losing their paychecks."

The nation is plenty ready.

Just some people in the nation aren't ready.

And won't be - until it happens.

Unfortunately, some of the people who aren't ready are among the most wealthy and powerful.

But there are more who are ready to elect the best qualified for the job.

Why can't edgelords ever be from the left?

"Yeah, there's someone with some *OPINIONS*, check them out..."

- Everyone should have food, housing and reasonable health care

- Open the borders, let 'em in, feed 'em and put 'em to work

- Unionize everyone
I'd say she ruined her acting career except she's a mediocre actor at best.

All she's got is the connections she built being a hot edgelord in the NYC art scene, and oops

Turns out things that people thought were wild edgelord fun at 3 am between lines of coke don't translate to corporate daylight

Ya, humanity has seen anarchy, has spent millennia dealing with it, and you can find it in the world today.

Seeing, knowing and understanding anarchy is why humanity created law.

Understanding law is why humanity created democracy, where the legislature, executive and judiciary are accountable.
The reason that modern societies have so much trouble dealing with "private" forms of abuse is that the idea that you, as an individual, have a right to state protection against your spouse or father or family or community is relatively new, and depends on an impersonal system of justice.

If you have to compare the person you're advocating for to pedophiles to try to make them look good, you're really in the lowest circle of hell.

Even if you are rubbing elbows with the most wealthy and powerful people in the world - that's the lowest circle of hell.

Today is a good day to remember, and to say, that the #MeToo movement was right, and was righteous, and has been vindicated over and over again. There was no overreach. There was no excess. There was no they-went-too-far.

So much work remains to be done.
