Every other state should shut down in sympathy.
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager
“We Are Facing a Tsunami of Hate”: Amid ICE Crackdown, Unions and Community Groups Call for Minnesota Shutdown in 10 Days
Following the ICE murder of Renee Good and an assault on the state by federal immigration forces, a labor-community coalition is calling for residents to refuse to work, shop or go to school on Januar...

Oh, Monster cheese...

[That's what I call Munster, fyi].

A chunk of Monster cheese, some bread with hummus and a handful of grapes.

Chase with tea.

Lunch.

Yum.

Yes, could we please get some politicians who know that pedophilia, racism, misogyny and murder are bad?

We could start with that.

Baby steps.
this is what happens when politicians have no morals, ethics, or principles.

in other words this is what happens when 'centrism' has power.

they're currently both-sidesing pedophilia bcos both-sidesing is all they know how to do.

"The fear isn't stopping me from showing up."

The definition of courage.
Journalists often go on hand-fed ride-alongs with agents.

Seldom, though, do they get into the cars of everyday people protecting their communities from those same agents.

We just did exactly that, in ICE-occupied Minneapolis:

There's no training to make a brutal thug who would shoot someone in the face for no reason into a good public servant.

Abolish ICE.

Investigate and prosecute.
WARNER: It used to take 5 to 6 months to get trained. They've now lowered the training period to 47 days. Why 47 days? Because Donald Trump's the 47th president. Tell me that's a rational approach

KERNEN: I'm not taking that bait

WARNER: Joe! You can't pick your facts

This stands to reason.

The virtuous don't want to work for an authoritarian movement.

And the movement doesn't want the virtuous working for it.

Trump prefers those who will follow orders, give him personal loyalty, not think too much about consequences and use violence as a default solution.
One basic lesson from political research is that secret police generally rely on mediocre men willing to do the dirty work of authoritarian regimes in order to advance their careers.

Yes it's fucking dangerous - DHS is gunning people down in the streets.

It's more dangerous to do nothing. The administration is going to burn the nation to the ground, sell off anything he can sell and put the money into his own pocket.

Resist now, or we're inviting oppression.
Rep Omar: "It's really important for Americans to record, to create the level of transparency we need. What we have seen in Mpls is ICE agents oftentimes jumping out of unmarked cars wearing a mask. We know that DHS has lied repeatedly, so it is important for there to be recording from eyewitnesses"

The feds can take on one sheriff. The feds can overwhelm a city for a while.

They can't take on all the law enforcement officers, can't overwhelm all the cities - they don't seem to have the manpower to beat up on more than one at a time.

Here’s a comment for the people who are upset that MN hasn’t charged Jonathan Ross already:

If you just Leeeroy Jenkins this shit you will lose and you will empower fascism and murder.

It is indescribably hard to prosecute cops for murder. It is even hard when the murder is ON VIDEO.

More people are going to be murdered by ICE. It’s clear. The tactics ensure it, ICE is getting more furious and being disagreed with or resisted in any way, the verminous administration supports them and has shown they will tell any lie to support ICE murdering people.

Representative Roger Williams can go fuck himself.
Rep. Roger Williams: "People need to quit demonstrating, quit yelling at law enforcement, challenging law enforcement, and begin to get civil."

A propos absolutely nothing, there's no statute of limitations on murder.

In a nation ruled by supremacy and all its many sabotages of the public good, every act of repair is a defiant act.

*Every* act of repair is a defiant act.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.

We need to get people who think like this out of power.

It's particularly hair-raising to me to discover that Greenland is over 80% indigenous. The United States does not have a history of kindness to indigenous populations.
Ogles: "It's important that we have a stake in Greenland, that they are quite frankly a protectorate of the US. They've been in relationship with Denmark - that needs to end. We've spilled more blood protecting Greenland than the Danes... we are the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere"

Compliant.

"Nice country ya got there. Be a shame if something *happened* to it."
Marco Rubio: "It had to be done. And it's been done. And I assure you the people left behind in Venezuela now that are in charge of the police and everything else, I assure you they are gonna probably be a lot more compliant than Maduro was as a result of this."
January 5, 2026 at 1:54 AM
I think that to some extent, we in the US are not used to looking at the world through the lenses of uncontrolled greed and corruption unmitigated by any virtue. It seems like there's a lot of analysis about the administration's game plan, re: Venezuela.

Don't forget folks: allowing yourself a vision of the future you'd want for our country and planet - not the one you'd settle for, not the one you fear, but the future of your dreams - isn't naive, it's a vital cognitive skill. That's how we articulate what we most value. What's worth fighting for.
Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.
