Alberta’s government gave a sole-source contract to a PR firm to help sway public opinion on its education policy after the teachers’ union announced a strike in September. Read the details.

Troy Forester, the officer alleged to have sent these inappropriate texts, may be familiar to you for other reasons: vice-president of the Edmonton Police Association; demoted in 2014 for sexual conduct towards a recruit; fined $22,000 in 2006 for assaulting a man at a traffic check-stop.

1. Historically, eugenics was not a pseudoscience. It was *science* Almost every scientist, social scientist, academic, etc. believed in the validity of eugenics. You would have to search far & wide to find a scientist that didn't believe in some form of it. They taught it in college!

Maybe it’s not that TOO MANY students are getting emotional/psychological related accommodations when they don’t really need them, & more that record inequality, growing authoritarianism, climate catastrophe, & massive debt together are actually having a fraying impact on young people.

One of the most annoying things about this is the Bow Valley has one of the biggest actual papers left in Alberta because (I assume?) they can actually sell ads because of the tourism base. (Shout out the Rocky Mountain Outlook!) So what business problem is this solving?

A few companies have made a great deal of money under the Alberta Recovery Model and there's little to show that they have actually delivered on the outcomes Albertans expect. Are people's health outcomes better off with a two-tier, American-style healthcare? The answer is almost always NO.

What's the political equivalent of being murdered in a hail of bullets on the front lawn of your suburban home? Former EPS chief and top Alberta bureaucrat Dale Mcfee has overseen a couple gangster regimes now. They don't end well for the top men. How the Mirache regime ends will tell the tale.

How many years ago was it that the Edmonton Police were trying to bust Diotte in an undercover drunk driving sting? Now they're posing for photos with him. But he was a Sun journalist back then, writing negative columns about photo radar. Now he's pro law and order so he gets an EPS photo op.
Former EPS chief Dale McFee's overt politicization of his role has apparently opened the door for his successor Warren Dreichel and EPS officers to attend political functions. If the EPS has any photos of an EPS chief and officers attending a federal NDP event, please post them.

I’ve been a secondary school teacher for 20+ years - a whole generation. Once upon a time there were jobs available for students ill-suited to the rigour of university. They went to work and that was their lifes’ trajectories. Those jobs are gone now, replaced by gig work and exploitation.

Infantilising them does not achieve a thing. Blaming university is unhelpful. Considering the change in society and how capitalism has created gig work to replace solid, secure employment is the way. Kid These Days ™️ are still the same. It’s the previous generations that screwed them over.

there's lots of hockey to enjoy in the city of Edmonton that isn't a locus for corruption and graft. Citizens would be better off spending their dollars at USports or ACAC. Sure would be nice if local, independent media covered such events. How about it @taprootedmonton.ca?
