This is pretty shallow, imo. Break it down more. Add in research costs that rise on corporate subscription models - databases, software programs, cloud services, tech needs in the classroom. It’s one cost to replace blackboards and chalk. Quite another for datasets, databases, and tools to use them

It's no secret that going to college can be very expensive, with tuition costs rising faster than financial aid. But what's causing that price tag to rise so quickly?

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

The Librarian’s Call: Documenting Is Resistance
History is protected by those who collect, preserve, and share the facts. 📚

Lots of banger quotes in this @commondreams.org article by Rodney Freeman Jr. about how library and archives workers collect and preserve materials, including zines.

I’m not assuming that I have so many followers that someone who cares hasn’t seen this, but here it is:

If you’re watching “Death by Lightning” over the holiday break (and you should), I wrote an episode-by-episode history companion threads for context & correction. Great show—not an attack on it!
Here's my promised thread of threads on every episode of "Death by Lightning." Again, it's totally legit to diverge from history to craft this satisfying (and manageable) show. I'm simply providing the real historical context, as best I can. Plus a final thought at the end.

Just watched ep. 1 of “Death by Lightning.” For a screen adaptation, great job. Superb casting.

The problem: Everyone’s white. Black delegates played a big role in GOP conventions. There were still Black congressmen! Hollywood is bad with Black people in history with power & their own interests.

This.

Whenever local government reviews the library budget and asks, "Why should we give you money?"

We want the library to be able to say, "Because we provide a valuable service used by many people!"

Libraries are like muscles, using them more makes them stronger. 💪
Anybody who is like “Piracy is activism!”—trust me, supporting your local library is about 1000% more effective activism, and it’s still free for you and authors still get paid!

grease floats.

when it flows in sewage and into our plants, it thickens as temps fall, separating in our settling tanks.

the churning water forms grease globs that build like snowballs, and operators remove them so they don’t clog the process.

listen. don’t pour grease down your drains.
