I'm having a lot of fun with the game's punishing start

I've survived multiple floors by by the skin of my teeth. But, I get the feeling that I won't be so lucky next time~!

Iblard: Laputa no Kaeru Machi (PS1) (1997)

A young man reads his grandfather's fantasy book about the wondrous land of Iblard, a green lush world of floating islands or laputas, magic and pastel colors and is soon isekai'd into Iblard via a floating train, very similar to the one depicted here. We see a vast meadow stretching into the horizon under bright blue skies and a few hedges and rocks surrounding a nearby shrubby platform with some thin trees, serving as a train station platform for an art deco hover train that slides on floating transparent crystals. It's all very pastel colored and magical. ✨ A dense forest path leading to a big chunk of rock with a golden symbol of the crescent moon on it and the cutest little orange fox creature standing on top of it, observing you from above and look so proud at the idea of being taller than you even though it's just standing on a tall rock. A colorful garden with purple, green and orange hills in the far distance and an igloo-shaped purple hut with glass windows serving as the home of a cute purple dinosaur creature with Pikachu eyes. It's like if a velociraptor was a cute little squishy huggable guy. It's standing in front of the doorway of its home, looking at you kinda concerned because you're obviously eyeing the shiny blue crystal that's displayed on the cupboard. It looks just like a brick of the deepest blue crystal meth you've ever seen and it's curiously looking just like the magical artifact that brought you to Iblard in the first place. After some adventuring, the cute orange fox brings you to a peculiar shrub that turns out to be a gentle giant forest man covered in grass and shrub with thick shrubby eyebrows, gentle squinting eyes, puffy nose and majestic shrubby mustache. He's also my avatar for this profile! He only speaks the forest language that sounds right out of The Black Lodge and then he gives you a brick of pure blue meth. Perhaps drugs will help you understand his cosmic language (I'm confident it will).

After proving his mettle to Captain Flik, Riou (and Jowy, and Nanami) join the defense forces to repel Luca Blight's army. Having surrounded the fort with overwhelming numbers, Blight's tromping cavalry charge and trample through the first line of infantry, leaving stomped and stabbed bodies in their wake. Riou, Nanami and Jowy, only children, bravely cross the threshold into a larger world of innumerable dangers. The resisting mercenary group, though brave, has been defeated, and Luca Blight casts his monstrous, vile gaze upon young Pilika. Riou and Jowy rise to her defense but are easily swatted away by the more experienced swordsman. When all seems lost, Captain Flik and partner Viktor pull the three youths from the jaws of the demon and make a hasty escape with their humble fort burning to the ground behind them. Under the burned ruins of her village, Pilika, traumatized by the ordeals inflicted upon her, leads Riou and Jowy to a secret shrine where a mysterious emissary of destiny appears before them, offering great power.. The kind of power one could use to bring justice and order to a cruel, chaotic world, young Jowy imagines. Taking parallel, separate paths, Riou and Jowy come face to face with their destinies: Riou inherits the Bright Shield Rune, granting him great power to defend and preserve life. Jowy, having been molded by fate into its perfect vessel, claims the Black Sword Rune, which is death. Something long dormant stirs once again.
