Hope you're enjoying your weekend!

The next #blog entry isn't a strict article, but the return of the journal-style Letely series where I talk about what I've been enjoying in recent days.

Weeks. Months. It's been a little while since the last one.

I'm reminded of the 2008 oneshot manga ABILITY SHOP, by Akame ga Kill! artist Tashiro Tetsuya.

Spend your own lifespan as currency to purchase any skill you can imagine.

LRP has me recall how such a simple premise could leave me with such a lasting impression.

I have a few random points in Skateboarding and Origami; while fun, they don't really synergize with my main class.

I'd reallocate towards Writing and Language now that I know my DPS scales off of those.
There should be respec options in real life. I would like to exchange 30 years of guitar experience and put that into piano instead, please. What do I have to do? Bring a tchotchke to a hag in the woods? An arcane egg for her brew? Fine! Put it in my fucking quest log!

Played LSD, and now I can't stop having unimaginably esoteric dreams

Who is Linen and what does it want from me? Is there an end to all of this?

Is this reality..? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So there's this YouTube channel that exclusively posts shorts featuring cats at your typical Japanese arcade

I present to you: "Sound Voltex at Round1 on a Weekday Night"

This is honestly pretty accurate to what you'll see at the SDVX cabs on a normal Wednesday

My first PEAK duo night!

Bestie and I are still figuring out the game on Tenderfoot difficulty, having lots of fun in the process. The setbacks and screw-ups tend to be more comedic than frustrating, and I like how the proximity chat is implemented here.

PEAK offers some beautiful vistas as well.

This is the run, this is the run, I can feel it in my bones; this is the run!!

This is the final floor of the final postgame dungeon of Super Bullet Break. My deckbuild has a busted "engine" based on cost reduction and chain damage.
I'll be back in about 30-40 minutes to report back with good news.

My gaming habits: "going to a buffet restaurant and getting one of everything because each and every dish looks amazing, so I end up with what resembles an hors d'oeuvres plate"

I do have some favorite genres but in the end, I want to try most anything.

I'm terrible at finishing games, though.

「ん?じゃあ半から始まったらどこまで行くんかい!?」って、思わず考えてしまった、、

「半から」って、「半からあげ」のことだぞ、私。どんだけ疲れてんの?

The writer of the article is a 47-year-old mom and long-time Tokimemo fan.
Reminiscent of a classic text-style "let's play", she introduces the recent remake Tokimemo Emotional to her husband and daughter who've never played a Tokimemo game before.
"Will they feel a 「tokimeki」 that transcends time?"

The Sakuna-hime mobile spinoff features cute mascots representing real-world Japanese rice cultivars.

Look at Akitakomachi (from Akita Prefecture), represented by an adorable Akita Inu(!!)

Japan has experienced a very difficult rice harvest this last year, so I appreciate the timely awareness. 🙏

Although I've been out of the #Umamusume loop for a few years since I retired from the Japanese version, I clearly recall enjoying the Unity Cup (Aoharu Hai) scenario--primarily, its story!
The writing is strong and the progression of play feels wonderfully dramatic. Global players: do check it out!

Wow, it's been a year since I moved here, and it was the best decision I could have made. To think that a year ago I was about to abandon the project. Not for lack of interest, but because of how things were. It's been great to finally stop hiding, and the friends and mutuals I've made here.

Okay, I mentioned it, so now I HAVE to talk about some of my favorite game typography.

This is the ESTIMATE DLC for DJMAX RESPECT V, rocking a powerfully elegant aesthetic for its main menu.

Extreme serif stroke contrast. Bold fills and negative space. Flaunting a champagne-colored, strict beauty.

I took a look at the back cover hoping to be further charmed, and I was.

Final panel:
"Now that I think about it, people usually don't look at the back cover of games, do they? So, this manga's pointless?"

I come from 27 years in the future to say I DO look at the back cover; the manga's adorable!

When someone asks how they should progress in a video game, a dismissive "stop worrying & just play the game" is, IMO, thoroughly unhelpful.

Discovery can be a big part of the fun factor, but I feel like there's a way to respect that aspect while helping out players who are lost and not having fun.

I have くそざこ日記1 stuck in my head again

Is it too nerdy for me to say that this 18-second song lowkey helps explain Japanese syllabic structure by virtue of assigning morae to a beat with a 2/4 time signature? With examples of ん both as 撥音 and not?

It's catchy as hell, too.
