We had to pause the show while I melted down about exactly this. I do try to do the willing suspension of disbelief thing with TV science/tech but the setup for that part was SO WRONG.
These labs have intensive stringent protocols they wouldn’t even be able to just take off a glove - they’re taped on and held in place by O rings. Their suits are pressurized. If they did get infected that would instigate all sorts of response procedures that definitely wouldn’t involve just one guy

My European family: if they are your age they are cousin, if they are your parents' age they are aunt/uncle, if they are your grandparents' age they are grandmother/grandfather. There's not much reason to try to figure out who is genetically related to me. What does it matter?
Sorry I refuse to entertain the complete non-existent world where white people don’t know that countless cultures, including some of their own but certainly diasporic racialized ones, call their mom’s cousin’s friend’s sister they grew up with “cousin” and call close women elders “aunt/auntie”

If there is anything I know about tattoos (not much) it is that if you can get a drunken, stupid tattoo you can also get that tattoo covered up/altered when you realize it's a regrettable design. I don't have a problem with people who have realized they made a mistake and taken steps to fix it.

As somebody with a really hard-to-pronounce name (it is not, in fact, Pie, as much as I sometimes wish it were), I am often befuddled when people with names that are said *exactly as they are spelled* (for English speakers) have to deal with this. No wonder they get stuck on the Turkish "c".

I hit a major milestone today. After years of hard work, I have reached the weight I was before I met my abusive ex. They wanted me fat and unhappy so I was easier to control. Now I feel like I've completely lost the person they shaped me into.

As somebody who was just in an ER as a patient, I can say that wait times are not too bad if you have a life-threatening emergency; I was whisked right into a bed. A system that makes poor people go to ER for urgent care/instead of primary care is very broken and hurts people with real emergencies.
ER doc here! This is a lie. Wait times are up because the American healthcare system is an unsustainable business model and a for-profit national healthcare system just doesn’t work. These problems will continue to get worse until we change that system. It literally has nothing to do with immigrants

I have a prescription for lorezepam and they give me 90 pills at once (90-day supply, in theory, though in practise they go bad before I use that many). And for reasons that are never quite clear, they put them in a bottle that is easily 10 times larger than necessary.

As is the custom of my people, the next hour will be spent talking about the earthquake. I will say this one was close to the biggest I've been through here. And every time we have one I am relieved to be on a modern foundation.
Been feeling light-headed during exertion for a week or so, and yesterday the chest xray showed pneumonia. Mostly just a cough right now, but that 80/50 bp was very dramatic: lying down on the street in SF unable to sit up without blacking out, ambulance, 5 hours in ER, 2L fluid. 0/5 stars.

I don't know anybody who designs safety clothing for women, but I do know that whoever is doing that job is obsessed with boob pockets. I have never used a boob pocket. They look stupid, interrupt the reflective tape, and are basically useless. So why does EVERY high-vis shirt have one?

I recently signed up to be a DSW -- Disaster Service Worker -- doing second responder work at disaster zones. (Second responders don't save lives or recover bodies, we assess damage and tag buildings.)
